No idea why someone said this is not a good example. This is the most obvious interview question! – Wikis Jul 21 '10 at 13:04
7
This is not a good example because it is not a question about interviewing. Imagine this question being asked on the hypothetical live site. How will users respond? Are you attempting to interview the users? Or, is it a "What's your favorite ... " kind of question? If the later, I still think it is not a good example, it's not about Interviewing. I think if you framed the question differently, with a question, perhaps "How do I answer 'Where do you see yourself...' if I really don't know?", it would be okay. – rlb.usa Jul 21 '10 at 17:38
Ah, OK, good point. – Wikis Jul 21 '10 at 17:50

Stack Exchange sites aren't repositories for "Questions to ask at an interview". There's just no question aimed at the users to answer. What should users do when a question is asked on the site saying "Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?" ? Vote up and down on how good of an interview question they feel it is? Discuss the ins-and-outs of the interview question? Respond in a "What's your favorite..." kind of question manner with their future plans? In all the above, it's not the purpose of the site. – rlb.usa Jul 21 '10 at 19:26

What's the ideal attire to attend an interview?

seems like this would be very different depending on what you're interviewing for, and where the interview will be held – warren Jul 27 '10 at 20:16
.. and the gender of the person being interviewed, of course. This really should be split into 2 questions, women/men – bobobobo Feb 4 '11 at 1:18
@bobobobo the decision tree (guiding principles, etc) for what you should wear to an interview "should" be the same. Obviously one might wear a suit and one might wear a dress, but you really end up with a bunch of criteria for your attire to meet, and then you match that up to your closet. Now, I say "should" because I know women who make certain attire decisions that work in their favor that men who made the same decision would not be meet with the same success. But then you have to define "ideal", now don't you? – corsiKa Sep 12 '11 at 17:20
I think better example will be "should I wear suit if my daily job would not require it" or "should I wear for the interview the same way I'm going to work, or should it be something special". And for girls, "should I wear high heels and miniskirt on the interview" :p – Darhazer Sep 12 '11 at 20:49

Not sure it's off-topic, but it's a good example of a question that should be quickly closed. – Boofus McGoofus Feb 2 '11 at 22:57
The definition of off topic is "not belonging on the site". So it might not be off topic for "Interviewing and recruiting" but it is off topic for "Interviewing and recruiting at stack exchange" – corsiKa Sep 12 '11 at 17:16

Its offensive, but definitely on topic. – JohnFx Jan 29 '11 at 23:59
Offensive may be enough to get a question to offtopic status, and legal advice is probably also off-topic. – blueberryfields Aug 24 '11 at 0:41
Yes, it's called refusal 'for legitimate non-discriminatory reason', and refusal 'for legitimate non-discriminatory reason in spite of discrimination' (Griggs v. Duke Power...). Don't abuse the privilege, though: discrimination is still unlawful, and in the end, if it's a question of fact, the final question will be 'would the outcome have been the same if the applicant hadn't been <name a minority>?' Like one of my own lawyers said, you may want things a certain way, and be confident you're legally in the right, but why paint a big yellow target on your back and invite a $50,000 court fight? – Mike Jones Sep 5 '11 at 3:28

Is this outfit professional?
added by bobobobo Jan 22 '11 at 6:19

A better question might be to ask if a particular outfit is professional or not. – Rob Z Feb 15 '11 at 13:11

I still think its a good question. @Rob Z I like your spin - it could be photos of models wearing the outfits they are planning to wear. An is this too revealing / uptight, picture of exact suit/model would work fine. – bobobobo Feb 20 '11 at 15:16
How do you define 'professional''? Usually it boils down to 'business conduct which ..I.. expect and/or approve...' – Mike Jones Sep 4 '11 at 1:00
