Its says LGBT, but should be understood that this topic is inclusive to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, genderqueer, asexual, and most anything else which falls outside of vanilla hetero norms. – Juliet Jul 16 '10 at 1:55

It's a question board. Isn't questioning implied? :P – maco Aug 15 '10 at 20:16

You have LGBT in the title and I had to click-through to associate 'LGBT' with 'gay'. You might want to change the description of the site to use a real word instead of reusing the acronym (recursively defining something doesn't clarify it). – yzorg Sep 20 '10 at 20:04

Would SRS invalidate a marriage in the US?
added by gnarf Jul 17 '10 at 20:48
link|flag
You'd have to define SRS, it's not an acronym I'm familiar with. – In the Booley House Jul 19 '10 at 19:44
5
For reference, SRS = sex reassignment surgery, FFS = facial feminization surgery, HRT = hormone replacement therapy. – Juliet Jul 20 '10 at 2:43

This would be ever changing. Wouldn't it be better left to a certain wiki-based encyclopedia? – Nerdling Jul 25 '10 at 0:13

So I can't have an answer to my question just because in the future another country might permit it also? Really? In that case the answer can be edited to add the new country. – Juan Manuel Jul 25 '10 at 15:13
I agree with Juan Manuel: this is a valid question. – CesarGon Oct 1 '10 at 19:00

Me too - in fact, the SE is a wiki of some sorts: stackoverflow.com/about – André Paramés Jan 18 '11 at 3:06

I'd argue this as off topic because it's general reference - pretty much the only thing about LGBT issues in worldwide legal systems that's actually easy to google. – Abby T. Miller Aug 19 '11 at 3:15

Not that there's anything wrong with this question, it's just super broad. Stack Exchange doesn't do so well with questions where the answer can be book-length. – Joel Spolsky♦ Nov 10 '11 at 15:35

Any such questions would need to defined where you're from. If you're in France, the UK, or different parts of the U.S., you're gonna have different answers. – Circeus Apr 7 at 16:33
The actual question should definitely include more specifics, particularly location. – RSid Apr 8 at 12:59

Yes. (My $0.02. Sometimes it's hard not to answer these example questions! :P) – Abby T. Miller Nov 29 '11 at 2:57
@Abby: I agree personally, but I have seen debate around that topic, primarily on the grounds that it's far easier for asexuals (particularly hetroromantic asexuals) to pass as straight. So it's not really a question I want answering for myself; more it's a question I think would be suitable for the forum in general. – me_and Nov 29 '11 at 17:58
@me_and Agreed. I just can't resist weighing in even though Area 51 questions are supposed to be examples, not actual questions to be answered :P – Abby T. Miller Nov 29 '11 at 18:05

While the answers can be edited, they shouldn't expire in a set date. – André Paramés Jan 18 '11 at 3:08

You don't think this question will remain relevant? I can see situations in which I might want to know, for example, whether the gay pride parade in 2001, in Toronto, happened in June or July. – blueberryfields Jan 18 '11 at 3:18
1
@blueberryfields - good point - but if answers to this question keep getting edited to reflect the next pride parade, your 2001 answer won't be listed here once the next one has been scheduled. The question would have to somehow specify that we're trying to keep a list going? Or we would need separate questions: "When is the <town> parade in 2011?" "When is the <town> parade in 2012?" etc. Could get messy. – yodelmachine Jun 13 '11 at 20:21
