@Michael Pryor & @Robert Cartaino: I think the overlap if decent when we are talking about true hobbyist and experts. On larger tanks the equipment is often related. For example CO2 reactors are applicable for both large Reef tanks and African Cichlid tanks. Canister filtration is used on both fresh and salt. May people who are hobbyist-experts have or have had both fresh and salt tanks in their collection and can offer insight on both. – beggs Jun 3 '10 at 2:54
