@Michael Pryor & @Robert Cartaino: I think the overlap if decent when we are talking about true hobbyist and experts. On larger tanks the equipment is often related. For example CO2 reactors are applicable for both large Reef tanks and African Cichlid tanks. Canister filtration is used on both fresh and salt. May people who are hobbyist-experts have or have had both fresh and salt tanks in their collection and can offer insight on both. – beggs Jun 3 '10 at 2:54

I'd say this is a good question. I'm not sure for goldfish but it really could be difficult to determine sex for some fish. – cspare Jun 2 '10 at 14:14

Just a question, do we want to allow duplicates for disease questions (My guppy has cotton-candy, My angelfish has cotton-candy, My goldfish has...)? But I agree that asking about symptoms lead to a finite list of potential diseases and treatments. – Barthelemy Oct 5 '10 at 22:24

This is a good question. There isn't a good resource for freshwater plant identification (though there are a few okay ones). It's much better to ask a forum for these types of questions — especially when there's eight kinds of vallisneria. – a paid nerd Jun 12 '11 at 17:34

From the point of view of "experts" this is not on-topic, but assuming the site attracts the amateurs it could be on-topic; What type of Clownfish was Nemo, Ocellaris or Percula and how to tell the difference? Most experts already know the answer; it's the number of dorsal spines and the width of the black outlines on the strips but newer hobbyist-experts might benefit from a detailed answer. – beggs Jun 4 '10 at 1:53
