Does this include Raja Yoga, Bakti Yoga, etc? Or primarily eight-limbs Yoga sometimes called Hatha or Ashtanga and including Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara... Dharana? If your intention is to cover the same topic covered by, e.g., Patanjali, that seems like a good focus. But if your intention is to include multiple Yogas together, this exchange seems inappropriately unified. – Heath Hunnicutt Jul 12 '10 at 15:11
@Heath Hunnicutt: I don't get your point. Of course this site should include any yoga "variant"... That's why we have tags. – repecmps May 20 '11 at 9:52

Can pranayama practices be dangerous?
added by Max Gontar, edited by WikiSpeedia hang-around Nov 5 '11 at 10:13

Great question. I have asked it in other Yoga forums and have not come to a conclusion yet... – DaveBall aka user750378 Sep 3 '11 at 20:25
pranayama is very powerful. it can be dangerous if practiced unproperly i.e. holding the breath too long. If you practice correct pranayama breathing you should be fine. – Bruno Nov 27 '11 at 16:26

What are the medical contra-indications for the headstand?
added by allesklar Jun 2 '10 at 9:33

We should not use "indication" or "contra-indication" ever. Those are Medical Doctor words and it is dishonest to impersonate Medical Doctors. Yogacharya should call a "contraindication" to be "restriction" to avoid the appearance of impersonating doctors. – Heath Hunnicutt Jul 12 '10 at 15:13

This question does not relate to the topic of the proposal.
It was closed as part of an automated migration of off-topic to close votes on September 29, 2011.

Most stack exchange sites discourage questions which are too argumentative and don't have a clear answer. Also a big part of this first phase is to determine which topics are good and which are not. We need more folks to think of questions which are off topic to help us define the proper extent of the site. – allesklar Jun 2 '10 at 15:15
I'm trying, but I find it very hard to decide which questions are still on topic and which are off topic. Since off topic questions should touch yoga, but not too much, it's really border line and difficult :( – DaveBall aka user750378 Sep 13 '11 at 20:48

I understand that Mr. Bikram has patented some aspects of his Yoga method. Is it widely considered ethical to patent yoga discoveries?
added by Heath Hunnicutt Jul 12 '10 at 15:23
link|flag
I'd say it should be off topic because it goes about judging a specific individual or group and this type of discussions would have to degenerate in the worst possible way. How about discussing patents, which should actually be trademarks, without naming names? – allesklar Oct 9 '10 at 17:20
