@Anthony while many designs get ported between FPGA and ASIC depending on the volume and design cycle, there is very little cross-over in the tools. There are completely separate synthesis and physical implementation tool chains. I see this site's benefit at addressing the unique needs of FPGA implementation, rather than general logic design. This targets experienced professionals, as opposed to people in the learning phase. – Max Nov 18 '10 at 22:55

An unfortunate truth; there are more people wanting to ask questions about FPGAs who are in the learning phase, than who are experienced professionals.
