A question to consider when trying to decide what's on and off topic in any juggling related forum is which skill-arts or circus-arts would be acceptable. Club swinging? Contact juggling? Diabolo? Poi? Stilt walking? Unicycle? Acro? Too broad, and you dilute the community too much with unrelated topics, too narrow and you turn people away who just aren't interested in traditional toss juggling. – Brian Campbell Oct 14 '10 at 22:12
Here's a possible definition for defining the scope: anything that a performer who bills himself as a "juggler" performs, or that people do regularly at juggling club, unless it's obviously off-topic or better discussed elsewhere (such as music; jugglers may do a musical number too, but there are plenty of music-related proposals already). So, for instance, unicycling would be considered on-topic, unless a unicycling SE were to be formed in which case it would be better discussed in a more specific setting. – Brian Campbell Oct 18 '10 at 17:30

How about just naming it object manipulation? You'd potentially get a lot more users if you covered more than just juggling (and since jugglers (clubs, balls, etc) don't tend to appreciate being grouped together with spinners (poi, staff, etc) and generally vice-versa. – glenneroo Dec 8 '10 at 1:55

Shouldn't we add everything circus related to this proposal?

if the answer for the question it 'practice', then its probably not a good question. Refine it to solve a more specific problem and I'll upvote. :) – CrazyJugglerDrummer Jan 26 '11 at 20:19

It's not easy to conjure up a coherent question with 150 character limit! And the answer to pretty much every problem in juggling and life is practice, plus IMO someone who only answers "practice" should be downvoted ;) I agree that in general (and particularly if this site were actually live) that it would be necessary to provide more details. Aside from that, Google "unicycling and juggling" and you'll see quite a few lists of techniques to try out. – glenneroo Jan 27 '11 at 11:43

Good question for trying to define what's on-topic or not. Yo-yo is definitely one of those grey-zone arts. Would you be interested in following this proposal? – Brian Campbell Oct 18 '10 at 17:31
Definitely interested in an SE site that would cover the spin-top related questions. I can really only contribute to the yo'ing topics. Something labelled as "juggling" may not gain a large yo-yo related crowd. Would a more generic SE site, like "skill toys" perhaps be more appropriate? – Liggy Oct 18 '10 at 23:14
It's only grey if this site is intended solely for classical juggling. If you renamed the site to Object Manipulation, then yo-yo would definitely fit in here, as well as many many other objects. – glenneroo Dec 8 '10 at 11:56
Yo-yo definitely falls under juggling! But what about my proposal to open up this site to everything circus related? I think most jugglers are also interested in the rest of circus related stuff. – fretje Mar 3 '11 at 10:09

This question could probably be clarified a bit; it's unclear if it's asking about how to learn 4 balls, or what tricks to work on after learning 4 balls. – Brian Campbell Oct 20 '10 at 1:45
throwing them all up in the air and letting them hit the ground while spinning around :) – CrazyJugglerDrummer Dec 5 '10 at 1:01
Would probably get closed as subjective and augmentative unless it was reworded it to "What are some easy 4 ball tricks"? – meagar Dec 9 '10 at 21:11
I think that something like this would be clearer: "I'm just getting comfortable juggling 4 balls and I'm ready to learn a trick. What are some easy 4 ball tricks to start out with?" – Amiel Martin May 4 '11 at 17:09

What's the difference between beatmap and siteswap? Which is better?
added by Steve Bennett Jan 27 '11 at 6:31
link|flag
I'm not sure "which is better" would be appropriate here; it's too subjective. How about "when would you prefer one over the other?" If this were less subjective, this would be a great on-topic example. – Brian Campbell Feb 5 '11 at 18:27
Indeed, without he "which is better", I think this is a great on-topic example. – fretje Mar 3 '11 at 10:11
I would vote this as "on-topic" if "Which is better?" is removed or reworded. – Amiel Martin Jul 7 '11 at 15:21
