Even if the question is a little basic, the impulse to substantiate your research should be encouraged. – moioci Jun 8 '10 at 20:32

Are you talking about a google/bing/yahoo search query? – Mike Farmer Jul 6 '10 at 18:33
Yes, the problem is too broad. If it talked about what to include in a request to get a Birth Certificate from Pendleton County Kentucky, it would be OK. – Blake Jul 11 '10 at 0:01

I'd normally consider this off topic, as it pertains to setting up a website more than genealogy, but I think that blogging is an important aspect of this work for many genealogists, and they have specific needs not easy to deal with for regular bloggers. – Adam Davis Jun 21 '10 at 1:17
I like this question because there may be specific blogging platforms that lend themselves better to displaying information about family trees. – Mike Farmer Jul 6 '10 at 18:35

I would think this ought to be common knowledge within the genealogy community. – moioci Jun 7 '10 at 23:52
Common knowledge, yes. But whether or not it belongs on this site depends a lot on what the defined target demographic ultimately ends up being, which is arguably in limbo. I'd probably answer this the first time in a general way (i.e., n + 72), and mark any future recurrences as duplicates. This is probably the most basic question I'd expect to see here. – stack Jul 29 '10 at 23:29
You are apparently assuming the question refers to the US federal census and that the questioner ought to know. They may not be familiar with the US census. – Anonymous Dec 23 '10 at 22:44
Likewise, it's supposed to be welcoming to the novice as well. That said, the only place I've known where I could look up census data has been Ancestry.com. – Kaji Jan 15 '11 at 15:15

I like it, but it feels just a bit too subjective. A "What are the pros and cons of...?" type question could work well here, though. Voting on-topic in expectation of this rewording. – Kaji Jan 15 '11 at 15:14
