At what point does overwhelming constituent desires override elected political ideology?
added by Fergus Dec 16 '10 at 7:47
link
What does that question even mean? Do they ever? Since when do you have an elected political ideology? You vote for parties or people, not ideologies. – Lennart Regebro Dec 16 '10 at 15:10
2
Elected members often struggle between the dichotomy of personal ideology and those interests of their constituents. The question is fundamental politics. – Fergus Dec 16 '10 at 19:16
1
I understand perfectly, and this is an undefined question, which has no answer. If you want endless discussions on meta-topics where neither questions not answers mean anything, I would claim stackexhanges are exactly what you don't want. – Lennart Regebro Dec 18 '10 at 10:29
1
Give me one political subject or question that has a definitive answer? Besides obvious legislative rules etc., most political subjects are open ended. If you don't think debate is at the center of politics you freaking confused. – Fergus Dec 18 '10 at 22:15
1
It's not about "definitive" answers, it about actually having answers. Your question don't have answers. Which makes them bad examples for Q&A sites, which is what stackexhanges are. – Lennart Regebro Dec 19 '10 at 5:02

This question is subjective and too vague. It would be better to word this to focus on a particular set of issues. – Ustice Dec 28 '10 at 20:37
@Ustice It also does not mention in which country. Certain countries are more to the left or more to the right. Thus, depending on the country, the definition of moderate will change. – Borror0 Dec 29 '10 at 8:44

Is intended as example for an off-topic-question, because it is subjective. – Mnementh Dec 17 '10 at 19:21
This could be better worded to ask the relative advantages and disadvantages of both systems. – Ustice Dec 28 '10 at 20:34
1
@Mnementh: That'd be "not a good example", not "great off-topic example". – Andrew Grimm Mar 11 '11 at 12:53

NaGE: This question is poorly worded. If it were "Why does 'criticism of everything done by the government' seem to embody the Libertarian agenda?" it would be On-Topic. As it stands, it looks like the question is asking what their problem is. Consider re-phrasing. – mfg Mar 31 '11 at 20:16
@mg: I think I was aiming for an Off-topic question that accentuated the need to make sure that the tone of questions and answers remains cordial among members of the proposed site. – Mark Rogers Mar 31 '11 at 20:27

This sort of question is clearly loaded against a particular party. This site should not be used as a means of attacking X party you don't like. – david4dev Dec 15 '10 at 0:32
This sounds like a situation where one person has a personal vendetta against a party 'X'. In almost all cases, the popularity of party X should be decided by the majority keeping party X in power. Not by an individual. And, depending on whether party X has fared well or not, the majority might vote them in or out. Party X cannot be stopped from gaining popularity if its policies are popular. – Jay Dec 26 '10 at 13:42
I was thinking particularly of the case of the BNP in the UK. Many people don't like their policies (including me) but they are constantly attacked by other parties, activist groups and the media - even though they are a perfectly legitimate party. – david4dev Dec 29 '10 at 10:44

Has America gone too far with its radical polarization of parties?

The question is too judgmental as stands. Does the word 'radical' really add anything here? Perhaps "Are American political parties too polarized?" would be better. – CodeByMoonlight Dec 17 '10 at 9:58

What does the Constitution say about firearms?
added by Linuxmint Dec 17 '10 at 21:04

This question is ambiguous - it needs to state which constitution it is talking about. – david4dev Dec 18 '10 at 14:33
@david4dev: Technically yes, but most constitutions and basic laws don't talk about firearms, so it's almost certainly asking about USA. – Andrew Grimm Mar 11 '11 at 12:56
