Open in my mind if this type of question would belong here or at parenting.SE. – Adam Wuerl Jul 19 '11 at 4:08

This seems more like a Parenting.SE question, to me. – Shauna Aug 2 '11 at 17:26

Not to me. It has nothing to do with parenting. The question is not about the dynamics between you and the child, but between you and the other parent. – Timwi Jan 6 '12 at 20:03

"Tell people off" already sounds rude. You might want to say, "How do I politely ask someone to leave who's overstayed their welcome? Or is this really asking how to privately scold someone over whom you have authority? – Spare Oom Sep 26 '12 at 23:59

should be changed to person, old lady is demeaning – Jeni Aug 31 '12 at 9:33
@jeni lol. Its only demeaning if you think less of old ladies, I don't. She was definitely old, and she was definitely a lady - just physics. – NimChimpsky Aug 31 '12 at 9:44
lol also - I'm an old lady and I found it demeaning (I'd prefer to be thought of as Boomer lady if one needs to define me) - I guess it's all a matter of perspective! Most would think reference to race & sexual preference inappropriate these days. – Jeni Aug 31 '12 at 10:30
3
That she was an old lady can be relevant to the answer; the proper response to her may well be different than to a small child or a young man. – Jesdisciple Sep 19 '12 at 4:14
Would you give the same response if race or religion were the descriptor rather than age? – Jeni Sep 23 '12 at 14:03

(Of course on the real site, the question would have to be more specific than this, but this is just an example.) – Timwi Feb 25 '11 at 22:47
I am really hoping this is an on topic question. If not then we need to start an SE for this. – Chad Jul 22 '11 at 16:55
@Chad - I agree. I came to this proposal from this type of question, which was closed as off-topic on Programmers - programmers.stackexchange.com/questions/97917/… . As I've seen these types of questions a lot, if it's not on-topic for this, then I think it would need a whole site of its own. – Shauna Aug 2 '11 at 17:24

@Shauna - The Workplace is about to go into beta and this question will be on topic there. Feel free to commit and join the community. – Chad Apr 9 '12 at 12:41
@Chad - Committed to that one quite a while ago. :) – Shauna Apr 9 '12 at 13:42
