Is there a limit on how long you can hold on to an app name in <App market>?
added by Moshe, edited by PearsonArtPhoto Sep 27 '11 at 13:23
link|flag
Sounds like a legal question, and really not app store specific -- replace "an app name" with "a product name" and the answer will be the same. Voted off-topic. – Matthew Read Sep 23 '11 at 16:03
The question might be ambiguous for somebody who hasn't published in an app store. Most likely he meant to reserve an app name. For example in the apple app store you can reserve a name for 90 days without uploading an app. After 90 days the app name will be available again for use by other developers. – Matthias Bauch Sep 23 '11 at 17:35

This is inspired by this question on Programmers: programmers.stackexchange.com/questions/61521/… , which would definitely fit better on an App-Store-centric site. – Brad Larson Mar 30 '11 at 17:51

My update is scheduled to release in a week from now, "pending developer release". Can I release it today?
added by Moshe Mar 28 '11 at 20:01
link|flag
Could you clarify what this means? I'm unfamiliar with this message. – Matthew Read Sep 23 '11 at 16:06
@MatthewRead - Sure. Apple was (at one point - not sure if they still do) allowing developers to hold an update until a given date. If you did so, the status was "pending developer release". The app was approved, but not live yet. – Moshe Sep 23 '11 at 17:13
Great, this is definitely a good question to ask then. – Matthew Read Sep 23 '11 at 17:19

Does an application need to get on the bestselling lists in order to make money?
added by Brad Larson Mar 30 '11 at 14:21
link|flag
This is an interesting question. I'm not sure how on topic it is, but I think this would be the best place for it. – Moshe Apr 5 '11 at 20:43
Spend 3 hours on an app, charge a dollar for it, get only 100 customers -- you've made money unless you really value your time. I don't think this can be answered other than with "Yes". Not a good example. – Matthew Read Sep 23 '11 at 16:05

It's kind of a legal question, but there are plenty of common cases that are explicitly OK or not OK, it would help to be able to see where a particular case lies. – benzado Jul 12 '11 at 23:21

Yes, and this proposal is about them too, see discuss.area51.stackexchange.com/questions/2175 – Nicolas Raoul Aug 6 '11 at 6:42
I'm not sure having a list of stores is a good idea, though I agree that PC stores should be on-topic. List questions have no one right answer, and tend to have the newest and most relevant answers buried by older high-voted answers. – Matthew Read Sep 23 '11 at 16:14
