Does homeschooling impair children's social skills?

@balanced mama: This is just an example question that the proposed homeschooling site would accept, not a real question I had; there's really no need to answer it here. – mmyers Jul 11 '12 at 0:10

It is definitely one that will be asked! – balanced mama Jul 26 '12 at 19:08

I think this is too subjective, as what is most important to one person may not be to another. – Flimzy Nov 28 '11 at 19:23
You could try asking, What are some factors to consider when selecting curricula? – balanced mama Jul 10 '12 at 23:44

How should the Internet complement a homeschooling curriculum?

This would probably be closed as too broad and too general. – ogerard Apr 25 '11 at 17:28
I disagree with ogerard. Curriculum is a specific topic, and while "the Internet" might seem quite broad, incorporating the Internet into your curriculum is a narrower scope and is a very common question for new homeschoolers. – Kenneth LeFebvre Aug 10 '11 at 14:04
perhaps the question could be narrowed to "What are some good research sources online" etc – studiohack Dec 31 '11 at 4:16
But if the question is just about research sources online, then it is a shopping question. – balanced mama Nov 21 '12 at 20:42

by showing them with stage plays. its a very successfull way that works on most of the kids. Cause just listening about an historical event is not as same as living in it. – Berker Yüceer Nov 15 '12 at 8:54

Where can I find information about the laws regarding homeschooling in [state]?
added by Jeffrywith1e Apr 28 '11 at 17:08
link|flag
Homeschooling is not specific to the US, so referring specifically to states makes the answers much less relevant to people outside of the USA. – JohnGB Nov 14 '11 at 10:52
This is true, but the laws are even different from state to state. Questions like this might be too localized, but in another question, I saw someone mention localized questions in the travel forum. Perhaps we could look at how they handle this problem to gain some insight about how to handle it here. – balanced mama Jul 23 '12 at 4:11

I think this would be better asked as "How can I find competitive sports teams available to homeschoolers?" As worded, the answer varies widely based on your location. – Flimzy Oct 29 '11 at 9:59
2
Doesn't it vary widely depending on your location no matter how you ask it? – balanced mama Jul 23 '12 at 4:18
@balancedmama: The availability of sports teams will clearly vary by location. But how to find such teams will have an answer that is equally applicable to all locations. – Flimzy Jul 24 '12 at 20:22
I still don't see how even the how to find would be any less localized. There are about four different ways to find teams in just my one area and each of those four ways may not be how one would find teams elsewhere. You often Cannot just use the internet for a search which seems like the only universal answer I can thing of and if some one was on SE asking that question, they've probably already tried that tac. – balanced mama Nov 25 '12 at 14:36

Surely this "first principles" question needs to be answered :) – Andrew Sep 8 '12 at 17:08
I wish I could upvote this more. Not only do they need to be answered, but I expect this site to get more and more duplicated of them as it becomes well-known, so it really need to be well answered. Also, I suspect its being well answered can attract many newcomers to ask questions of their own (not to mention if a true expert gets a bad first impression on this, he may well leave rather than posting) – Nikana Reklawyks Nov 20 '12 at 2:33

Often, people homeschool to allow for religious instruction. I would think that teaching the child in a multilingual setting or in a language other than the lingua franca of the location (e.g. Spanish in the U.S.) would be another possible benefit of homeschooling – demongolem Dec 31 '12 at 18:02
