To immerse in Hindi where in India should I go? When travelling there it seemed everybody spoke some other language and didn't care to teach me Hindi.

Perhaps some comments on what makes this a bad question. Likewise for the other question. – hippietrail Jan 31 '12 at 15:36

@Hippietrail I don't find anything wrong with the question. Most of the Non-Indians have an opinion that Hindi is the Language of India. It is indeed one of the main languages, but not the only one. Some of the north Indian States use Hindi as the language for day to day communications. Whereas South Indian States have their own Languages like Kannada,Telegu,Tamil,Malayalam,Tulu. So To immerse in Hindi you have to travel North India. – kartshan Feb 23 '12 at 11:38

But don't other languages also exist in North India such as Punjabi and Kashmiri? So some parts in the north should be better than others. – hippietrail Feb 23 '12 at 13:46
2
yes. They do exist. People of states like uttar pradesh, bihar, madhya pradesh for example speak hindi . – kartshan Feb 23 '12 at 15:10

Also note that hindi is not same across the country. Hindi in Bihar is quiet a bit different from hindi in Uttar Pradesh(UP) and hindi in MP is different from Bihar or UP so on and so forth. Difference is Far more complex than US and UK English. There are atleast 40 forms of Hindi in india only – Web Developer Feb 3 at 19:14

In Marathi, there is a word for "apple"("safarchand"), but not for "pear", even though both fruits belong to the same family. Why is this so?
added by Manishearth Apr 5 '12 at 3:39

Basically I mean to say that the argument "not indegenous to India" doesn't hold in this case--if one is indigenous, the other one will be as well. And thus both should have a name. – Manishearth Apr 5 '12 at 3:40

Sanskrit being mother of all Indian languages why is it that its not in use anymore?People may understand few sanskrit words but unable to speak it
added by Vincent Jun 7 '12 at 8:46
link|flag
That's the same with may forms of hindi... as people stop speaking it becomes difficult for younger generation to pickup and it begins to decline. It's said that Sanskrit is the best language for computers but since no/few programmers know it sanskrit is no where to be found . dcubed.dilipdsouza.com/2008/02/… n quora.com/Sanskrit-language/… – Web Developer Sep 2 '12 at 10:30
It's just the same as with not many people being able to speak Latin in France, Italy, Portugal, Romania, or Spain. Or for that matter that almost nobody would be able to speak Old English in England. – hippietrail Apr 18 at 9:43
