This would fit well in the Climate Change proposal. Fits well here too though. Good argument for merging. – naught101 Feb 7 at 5:36

Define "dangerous"? Perhaps being too close to an active volcano is actually what's dangerous? This isn't worded very well for a scientific SE – naught101 Feb 7 at 5:33

Of all the large stochastic events (earthquakes, volcanos, others?), which are most predictable?
added by naught101 Feb 7 at 21:27

Aren't stochastic events inherently unpredictable? – m0untain Feb 28 at 4:09
Hrm.. Well, it seems that depending on the definition, earthquakes and volcanos may or may not be considered stochastic, since they are deterministic, but also chaotic. I guess my question assumes the Kac and Nelson definition :) . Under that definition, events like these aren't inherently unpredictable, just inherently difficult to predict. Some are more predictable than others. eg. anything with a reasonably well-defined period (like a some geysers) is going to be easier to predict. – naught101 Feb 28 at 5:13
