<comments removed> Please do not use comments to answer these questions. This proposal is not part of a Q&A site, and the task at hand is to help define what is on and off topic for a site. Comments are here to help improve the questions; not to answer them. See What is the rationale for deleting answers? Thank you. – Robert Cartaino♦ yesterday

I live in Manhattan. Does my recycling actually get recycled?
added by streetchalk Jan 19 '12 at 6:02

Why is this Manhattan specific? – Spencer Kormos Jan 19 '12 at 19:22
1
I'm thinking the question can't just be "Does my recycling get recycled." Needs a qualifier. I suppose "I live in Manhattan" is enough. – SamtheBrand Jan 19 '12 at 22:09
8
Or maybe just "Does NYC recycling actually get recycled?" or "In which boroughs does recycling actually get recycled?" – Abby T. Miller♦ Mar 11 '12 at 0:11
@abby I think that could work. – SamtheBrand Mar 14 '12 at 5:53

Is it true that "the water" is the reason NYC pizza is arguably the best in the world?
added by SamtheBrand Nov 10 '11 at 17:31
link|flag
6
I think this is a valid question. I'm a NYer living in LA where multiple pizza and bagel shops promote that their water is shipped from NYC. We should at least try to Mythbuster this and debunk it as urban legend, unless you'd like to ask it in skeptics. – dddppp Jan 13 '12 at 18:16
4
You might have answered yourself about why this isn't valid for this forum. – Spencer Kormos Jan 17 '12 at 19:16
1
Could be true, but I still think this is an appropriate place for it. The question is bound to be asked -- the New Yorkers may as well try to answer it. – dddppp Jan 19 '12 at 3:10
2
This is actually a really good question, and it actually is quite answerable. You can remove the subjectivity and simply ask if the water gives NYC Pizza (and bagels) any distinctive qualities if you want, the fact is that this comes up a lot. – LessPop_MoreFizz Jan 30 '12 at 23:55

What is the most quiet public space in New York City, both indoor and outdoor?
added by sfrieds Jan 20 '12 at 21:05

2
The answers would be subjective, which makes the format of the question less appropriate. Maybe instead "What are some of the more quiet places in NYC?" But then that's a list question, which is also not appropriate. – Spencer Kormos Mar 14 '12 at 14:15
List questions are not always inappropriate on SE sites. Here is a Meta question on M.J.SE dealing with this issue: meta.judaism.stackexchange.com/q/959/1059 – Adam Mosheh Jul 22 '12 at 19:27

This could be good as long as the question is detailed enough to make it objective, not subjective. (i.e. "here is what makes a bridge difficult to jog across - traffic, length, lane organization, etc) – Abby T. Miller♦ Dec 12 '11 at 15:51

Can you be ticketed for not riding in the bike lane if the lane is obstructed (Say, by a double parked delivery truck)?
added by LessPop_MoreFizz Jan 31 '12 at 0:06

Pretty specific, and although local, probably better suited for the bikes site. Still a good warning that this forum could invite a wide range of "Is X illegal?" questions. – SamtheBrand Mar 14 '12 at 5:44
You can be ticketed, but you apparently don't have to pay the fine, as it's not actually illegal (as of June, 2011). – Flimzy Jun 28 '12 at 19:17
