I think that geographically-specific questions are perfectly appropriate, as long as they are tagged as such. Think of how Stack Overflow is so successful in having vary narrowly-targeted programming questions, about obscure languages. I think that same success will probably apply to this audience as well. – pkaeding Jun 30 '10 at 23:00

I suspect that when we get to 100 users with 200+ reputation, we should work on some of the larger reputation members re-committing. – Pearsonartphoto Nov 7 '11 at 4:31

This is one of those questions that, while on-topic, should probably be reworded, as it is currently worded as a closed question (i.e. instead of encouraging explanations, it seems to beg a "yes" or "no" answer). "How does..." would be better. – HedgeMage Nov 23 '10 at 0:23

I don't think that this is useful because it is too location specific. Could be useful IFF it was posted with a location specific tag. – sixtyfootersdude Jun 17 '10 at 19:56

Yeah I think a location tag might be useful as I would imagine certain people would want to know about certain areas. – Aim Kai Jun 18 '10 at 6:29
Location tags would explode in quantity because of the huge possible variations in scale (e.g. Asia, UK, Wiltshire, Newcastle-under-Lyme). Unless there was some best-practice on scale (country and/or city maybe). – Stuart Pegg Sep 26 '10 at 17:41
this is really interesting, and I think what could make this site really useful - location-specific info (maps, seasonal pointers, safety issues, etc.) would be great to include – msulis Dec 17 '10 at 2:51
as for location-specific tags, it seems like that would work itself out - for example around here in Oregon the logical divisions would be "Coast Range", "Cascades", or "High Desert". Other regions would have different logical divisions, and I would think you'd have to let people propose their own – msulis Dec 17 '10 at 2:53

too regional, localized – studiohack Aug 31 '10 at 1:10
I don't know - I think this sort of regional, localized, and even highly transitory info would be great to include – msulis Dec 17 '10 at 2:49

@msulis: This would be much better to ask on some local discussion forum. The questions here are supposed to stay for ever, and even if someone answers this, the answer will be useless several weeks later. I think somewhat better question would be: "The road to ... is frequently washed out. Anybody knows a way (forestry service, local mountaineering club, ...) to find out the current state of the road?" – Jan Hlavacek Jan 7 '11 at 3:53
Not only regional in space, but also in time. The answer to now will vary every day. – Guillaume Coté Jan 18 '11 at 14:52
