This is still a good question, but because this question had 11 votes and it takes 30 questions with a score of 10 or more to move this proposal to the next phase, I've moved my vote to another question with the aim of increasing the number of questions with 10 votes. – codewaggle Mar 2 at 2:07

I've seen this question numerous times in other forums, but it would be a better fit in this forum than any of the others. – codewaggle Jun 19 '12 at 17:51

What are the main differences between US and EU [or other couples of countries] legislations on privacy and personal data protection?
added by Eusebius Aug 31 '12 at 10:30

This is definitive a question, which will be asked, but may too broad (especially with the part [or other couples of countries], since the US and EU already differ a lot. – Zwie Dec 20 '12 at 17:34

The part within brackets is intended to describe similar questions of the same form, applied to other pairs of countries. It is not intended to mean that one single question may encompass any number of countries. – Eusebius Dec 20 '12 at 21:36

Do parents deprive their children of privacy rights when they read their inbox or search their bags without telling them?
added by AjiPorter, edited by Chad Apr 3 at 17:53
link|flag
Is this a useful question? They deprive their children of a certain amount of privacy (this is obvious). Whether they deprive them of privacy rights depends entirely on your opinion of what rights a child has in this context: and that leads to unbounded discussion, which isn't wanted on SE. I think it's an interesting question, but probably not good for the SE model. – TRiG Apr 22 at 14:33

You have to specify a country or a region, otherwise one doesn't know which law would apply. – Zwie Dec 20 '12 at 17:38
Good point, a key piece of info that someone might not consider and would learn by posting this question. – codewaggle Dec 20 '12 at 18:17
And a reason to get it downvoted and removed as not a real question... so please edit your question. – Camil Staps Mar 14 at 18:17
@Camil Staps Should I put the country that the company is registered in or the country that the server is located in or the country that the user is located in? – codewaggle Mar 15 at 9:13
I actually have no idea (would be a great example question too) - but for now, both will do :-) – Camil Staps Mar 15 at 9:34

From the About page on IT Security: "IT Security Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for IT security professionals." This question is from the layman's view. I'll edit it to be more privacy oriented. – codewaggle Apr 22 at 16:24

Most likely this question can be answered with a simple "yes". I think you'll want to rephrase it and ask about the problems/experiences people had while implementing. – THelper Mar 2 '12 at 9:36
