This could potentially devolve into an argument. You would have to include a context. One mans pro, may be another mans con... – Everett Jul 31 '12 at 12:45
Agreed with @Everett, this question would likely be closed as NC, it's a ridiculously broad topic and (to quote the NC description from SO) this question will likely solicit debate, arguments, polling, or extended discussion. – DaveRandom Aug 1 '12 at 13:32

While this is applied in the communication channels, this indeed is covered under signal processing site already. Off late i have seen [such as case with telephony] that after the questions are frozen, they close it because questions are too close with other sites. Please select questions which are exclusively meant for this site not overlapping otherwise. – Dipan Mehta May 24 '12 at 18:25

What are the pros/cons of using DIAMETER instead of RADIUS, if both are acceptable for an interface?
added by m0j0 May 18 '12 at 8:55

Why wouldn't this go in IT Security? – Everett Aug 31 '12 at 5:24

RADIUS and DIAMETER are used extensively for telecommunications signalling, which is not normally an "IT" topic. – m0j0 Sep 14 '12 at 21:54

Not so sure about this. "What is x" type questions often get closed on other sites on the grounds of "Dude, Google it". – DaveRandom Oct 19 '12 at 9:26
@DaveRandom while I agree a lot of "what is x" can be closed as too general, there are cases where google doesn't always offer enough authoritative answers. Wireless Telecommunications suffers from a lack of good resources, so I like this questions and other similar ones. – psubsee2003 Apr 13 at 22:24

Can someone help us out with what's wrong with this question? Be advised I'm not offended by downvotes and appreciate feedback on how to improve this question. Thank you. :) – jmort253 Aug 26 '12 at 5:10
I didn't downvote, but my best guess is this could evolve into a question with no right answer. – psubsee2003 Aug 26 '12 at 12:13

@psubee2003 - If it's a real problem, then there's most likely one correct answer. Thanks for speaking up, but I'm not sure I agree. Note that, on the actual site, I'd likely post logs and things that would help determine the specific problem. – jmort253 Oct 4 '12 at 5:07

I suppose that's true, I think my views on TL have been corrupted by spending so much time in the PHP tag on SO where it seems that TL has now become the default close reason for the influx of questions that are just unsalvageably terrible in many ways. I await the outcome of some of the stuff discussed here with interest. I would hope that by its very nature telco would attract less hit-and-run users than SO anyway. +1 for this question. – DaveRandom Oct 19 '12 at 9:39

Hi @Everett, please see discuss.area51.stackexchange.com/questions/7758/… and weigh in, if interested. I'm hoping we can determine what this site is about and that the topic is one that would be viable on Stack Exchange. – jmort253 Oct 4 '12 at 5:50

Why the downvote on this question? It seems like a good example of a practical question for the proposed site. – GorrillaMcD Oct 4 '12 at 3:57
1
@gorilla - Probably the same guy that downvoted one of my other questions. Says this proposal isn't for "product-related questions". With that said, I have no idea how this proposal will form a viable Q&A site if we're just shootin' the shit and not focusing on solving real, actual problems.... Maybe I just don't understand the proposal. It would make a good discussion question I think to help figure out what the difference is and what I should have asked instead... – jmort253 Oct 4 '12 at 5:09
@gorilla - I started a discussion here to get at the heart of this problem if you're interested: discuss.area51.stackexchange.com/questions/7758/… – jmort253 Oct 4 '12 at 5:49
