This proposal attempts to form a new community of what the small Personal Productivity should have been, Life Improvement is more of the right size. – Tom Wijsman Apr 27 '12 at 21:41

Related: Merging & Broadening – Tom Wijsman Apr 27 '12 at 22:44
Also note that this is not a dupe of Personal Development but rather means to be more general than such dead proposals, to form a more active site. – Tom Wijsman May 5 '12 at 15:29

Can meditation help me gain better control over my life?

This question can be answered by a simple yes or no. I'd rather see it rephrased to "How can meditation help me...." – THelper Oct 24 '12 at 7:37
@THelper, would that turn it into a list question though? – Highly Irregular Oct 24 '12 at 8:44

What can I do to become more motivated?
added by Highly Irregular May 2 '12 at 8:59
link|flag
Don't we have several books on the subject along with many many promising techniques to help becoming more motivated? It's an interesting question but it should be more specific. – Renan Jun 10 '12 at 15:04
4
It's still very likely to be asked. Perhaps the answer could discuss at a high level what the different techniques might be, and other questions could deal with the specifics. – Highly Irregular Jun 10 '12 at 18:55

This sort of question is asked quite often on Personal Productivity SE – le_garry Mar 5 at 21:37

What is an appropriate way of interrupting people when you feel you have something valuable to add?
added by Tom Wijsman Apr 27 '12 at 21:34

I don't think this is a problem for most people. ;) Anyway, it's not clear to me that this would be "life improvement". – Brock Adams May 1 '12 at 7:16

Most people being extroverts :p ? Maybe this question could be broadened to how a person could be less passive during a conversation. – James Poulson May 26 '12 at 19:42
@James: The idea is to word questions to be as specific as possible. It's not about 'broading'. – Christian Aug 26 '12 at 21:29
As you see fit. Avoid the mistake of Wikipedia where some people know better than others what is good for the site though ;) – James Poulson Aug 26 '12 at 23:01

What explicit philosophy (metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, etc.) was most useful for you when trying to live well and be happy?
added by Simon Gibbs May 2 '12 at 16:11

Isn't this asking for advice on the importance of philosophy rather than answers for problems that exist? – Renan Jun 10 '12 at 14:12
@Renan: Life Improvement doesn't have to be focused on problems. – Christian Dec 8 '12 at 20:25
We take excercise in order to be fit to live. Some people will want to train their minds too. – Simon Gibbs Dec 10 '12 at 15:50

This is phrased in a way that seeks lots of opinions. Stack Exchange has a policy to avoid this kind of question, so I'm voting to close. Feel free to reword it in a way to avoid that problem though, and it can be reopened (if it gets closed, that is). – Highly Irregular Jan 25 at 8:38

Is there a list of websites that quantify improvement in key areas of your life such as productivity or fitness?
added by calydon May 2 '12 at 20:38
link|flag
Voted to close; this belongs on fitness.stackexchange.com – Highly Irregular May 3 '12 at 22:12
I tend to agree, off-topic. Maybe on topic if you skip the fitness part. Would probably be even better if you change the question to websites for "Quantified self" tracking/analysis – THelper May 10 '12 at 10:33
I see where you're coming from but then does that mean that nothing that touches on fitness is allowed in life-improvement? Fitness is a big part of improving one's life. Note that I tried to emphasize the tracking and improvement aspect of the question - so this could relate to fitness or mental health or productivity. Maybe it needs to be re-worded to reflect that more? – calydon May 10 '12 at 16:58

This is the kind of question that could request scientific backup, similar to what we usually see at SkepticsSE. – Renan Jun 10 '12 at 14:10
I would go with Renan. Its all depend on one's belief and knowledge about the topic. Some of the studies done in this topic are Fox & Embrey (1972), Newman & Hunt (1966), Blood & Ferriss (1993), Lesliuk (2005). The result are all over the board. Its hard to come to any conclusion. – Harry Feb 6 at 11:44

I just moved into a new apartment and received 6 very similar keys. What is a good way to tell them apart?
added by clavio Dec 11 '12 at 13:38

Initially I thought this was a joke, but I actually want to know the answer anyway! – Highly Irregular Jan 25 at 8:41
The answer is different colors of nail polish. – clavio Jan 28 at 13:59
1
Another plausible way, could be to actually memorize the orientation of the six similar keys around one different key (e.g. a car key), and then haptically accessing their functions using a counting method to tell them apart as you flip the keys around the different one (with each number being assigned a purpose in memory). This is almost like iterating through a list. – eazar001 Mar 4 at 13:36

put them together on a metal circle in the way that there's blockade between the first and the last one. this way you have them numbered from one to six, which should help a lot in this situation – Darek Wędrychowski Mar 19 at 22:17

Everyday I am trying new productivity techniques and leaving some of the old good techniques? How can I keep trying new ones without losing old ones?
added by NatGio, edited by Highly Irregular Jan 25 at 8:40

I tried something similar what you seem to aim to (added new productivity techniques while not leaving other ones) few years ago and breakdown was the result. The harmony of the techniques (some are not completely compatible with each other, though it doesn't have to be apparent) and balance between productivity and rest (even though there are techniques for efficient resting too) are necessary in the long run. – Pavel Jan 31 at 10:23
