Is an individual advice animal, like Paranoid Parrot, a meme or is it the Advice Animal phenomenon itself that is the meme?
added by Iain Fraser Jun 20 '12 at 1:28

Sorry for using advice animals twice, but I thought I'd just go with a theme on the sorts of questions I'd ask. – Iain Fraser Jun 20 '12 at 1:29
+1. It think questions that involve the categorization of memes would be great for this site. They'd provide a deeper analysis of internet culture, and give the site a scholarly touch. – Miguel Jun 20 '12 at 15:49

Suggestion for a better question: "Are there examples of companies which used memes to their advantage?". Obvious answer is obvious: cheezburger network. – 0x6d64 Jun 17 '12 at 10:02
Or better, "Have any businesses improved noticeably from introducing memes?" – Pureferret Jun 12 at 20:36

Has Internet usage increased or decreased power consumption in developed countries?

Am I the only one that thinks this questions is obviously increased? – le_garry Jun 14 '12 at 21:52

It's not obvious either way; we need data. With the internet, we may stay at home more (fewer and more efficient trips). We zone on the PC instead of snowmobiling, etc. (Less energy-intensive recreation). Whole sectors of the economy become orders of magnitude more efficient. Almost energy-free emails are sent instead of physically hauling 3-pound documents around the world. Etc., etc. – Brock Adams Jun 14 '12 at 22:01
I think the answer should show a break down supporting this, so it would be useful. Perhaps it should be 'How has internet....'? – Pureferret Sep 18 '12 at 16:02

What does this have to do with culture and/or memes? – Eva Mar 2 at 17:40
This question would be better served in a reqion specific SE, instead of one about memes. – Andrew Jun 12 at 13:32

Where did the "advice animal" memes come from and what was the first one?
added by Iain Fraser Jun 20 '12 at 1:26
link|flag
Advice Animals, sometimes referred to as “Advice Dog spin-offs”, are a type of image macro series featuring animals of some kind (including humans) that are accompanied by captioned text to represent a character trait or an archetype that fits the role of a “stock character”.[7] While many Advice Animals use a color wheel background, some use unedited versions of the original photo. knowyourmeme.com/memes/advice-animals – Andrew Jun 12 at 13:34

What is a 'forced meme' and how does it differ from normal memes?
added by sarahm Apr 10 at 19:58
link|flag
A forced meme can be commonly defined as something that a person or group attempts to force into internet culture. Many forced memes never become embraced by the communities they are forced upon, but some have successfully become a part of Internet culture. – Andrew Jun 12 at 13:34

This question is inappropriate for the proposed SE. – Andrew Jun 12 at 13:37
@andrew tell me why. – Pureferret Jun 12 at 19:36
@Pureferret - The scope of this SE is geared more towards Internet Culture: This site would focus on subjects such as memes, trends (and their origins), cyber-etiquette, ethics, bullying, and virtual identity. While your questions encompasses the idea of virtual identity, its more of a personal taste question then anything else. Instead of being able to provide you with a Yes/No answer with historical accuracy, documented trends, or unbiased feedback, the question is ambigious. Perhaps a better phrasing might be: "How can I effective manage my Facebook friends? – Andrew Jun 12 at 20:13

Whilst I'd argue that my question is covered by cyber etiquette, and could be answered as a 'Good subjective' question, I like your rephrasing. – Pureferret Jun 12 at 20:34
