Specific instance type of questions such as this may not be suitable. We may only deal with broad based/ generic questions. The law, we know, is too complex. – Kris Oct 20 '12 at 4:58
@Kris The law is complex, however even general question can be difficult to answer correct. Nevertheless, this side will just help people to get a first opinion on a topic, not a final. (Final one should be given by a lawyer.) – Zwie Dec 20 '12 at 17:12
My point was that these questions generally promote opinion-pushing, speculation and protracted debates, all of which distract the reader from the actual, applicable provisions of law. – Kris Dec 21 '12 at 5:50

Which restrictions do I have if I copy code from an Open Source project?

This is very broad, and therefore probably better answered in a bunch of more specific questions. – MvG Sep 27 '12 at 16:22
@MvG said it -- too broad. – Kris Oct 20 '12 at 5:01
It would be acceptable if this was about one specific FOSS license - with GNU GPL the answer is trivial: you must license your program as GNU GPL if you ever release it. With BSD the answer is even simpler. But stuff like Microsoft Public License? LGPL? Listing them all is far too broad. – SF. Jan 16 at 16:27
