This question is not a good fit to our Q&A format. We expect answers to generally involve facts, references, or specific expertise; this question will likely solicit opinion, debate, arguments, polling, or extended discussion.

This is a list/poll question. Those generally aren't allowed on SE. – Nicol Bolas May 18 '12 at 23:52

Yeah this is right, but what is this? – omercan1993 May 19 '12 at 9:38

I want to design a custom alarm clock running my own OS with an LCD and speaker. But am not sure what type of processor would be most suitable.

An OS would be an overkill for an alarm clock. Unless you want to spice it up to sync with your google calendar, learn the TV shows that you regularly watch, follow it's broadcast schedule online and remind you. – Lord Loh. Apr 20 at 0:57
Homebrew OS deving itself is "overkill" :P .... I provided a specific use case and asked for a specific answer. I could have worded it "What kind of processor would be best suited for a personal internet device/alarm clock operating system" would that have been better? Of course a real question could contain much more details about what I have in mind. – cb88 Apr 20 at 5:39

Is it a good exercise to write your own boot-loader or would an existing boot-loader (e.g. Grub) be better?

This is bordering on being too broad a question to be answerable. But if it's about a specific device then it's probably okay. – Craig Young Aug 17 '12 at 7:31

Fair point. I'm a total noob with operating system development and I wouldn't know a good question about it if it hit me in the face. This is just an honest question I would ask to try and break into this sort of thing and get my bearings. – Dean Aug 19 '12 at 23:12

This is a general software development question, suitable for StackOverflow, and not easily related to Homebrew OS theme. – hardmath Jul 9 '12 at 12:29
