How can I speed up my computation of Fibonacci numbers? Right now I compute f(x) as f(x - 1) + f(x - 2) in the straight-forward manner.

I assume that in a real-life scenario, the code would be given in the body of the question, not in its title. Which means that the title might have been pretty undescriptive at first, although an edit might fix that once the problem was identified. – MvG Sep 27 '12 at 15:03
