Since this question now has 10 up-votes already, I recommend to future users not to up-vote this again, instead use your up-votes on other questions since we need 37 questions with 10 up-votes – Chris Jan 1 at 17:10
<comments removed> Please do not use comments to answer these questions. This proposal is not part of a Q&A site, and the task at hand is to help define what is on and off topic for a site. Comments are here to help improve the questions; not to answer them. Thank you. – Robert Cartaino♦ Mar 7 at 16:53
Why a certain thing is said is off-topic. A good rewording could be: "Why is butter better for you than margarine? Or is this false?" – Kate Mar 13 at 0:02
I think you mean "is off-topic, In my humble opinion". Obviously the opinion of the community who are defining what this topic is, think this is on topic, as they have voted it +10. – Chris Mar 13 at 3:14
@Kate, We are in the definition stage of the proposal, so we cannot simply declare questions as being off-topic, as there is no FAQ to reference. If however you believe it should be off-topic, then please create a discussion question about it. – Chris Mar 13 at 3:27

This question is duplicated in a variety of flavors on cooking.se and here it fails to identify the types of differences it is looking to have answered – mfg Feb 16 at 16:17
@mfg I think it is pretty clear by the title of this proposal which aspects are targeted. We can't prevent some cross-site duplicates, this will happen due to overlapping topics and is not inherently bad, as different sites will have a different focus on answering the same question. – Informaficker Mar 23 at 15:55

How do I keep a food diary, what should I write into it?
added by Informaficker Oct 5 '12 at 10:27
link|flag
@informaficker, don't you see the merit in writing out possible answers as well? That way we can see whether this site actually has enough knowledge to answer the proposed questions. Because if the knowledge base isn't strong enough, the future of this site will simply be a question site, not a question and answer site. Sure it may be against stackexchange policy, but let the stackexchange moderators look after such matters, and hopefully (for the good of the site) they don't notice. – Chris Dec 31 '12 at 12:10
@Chris it is not the purpose of the definition phase to see if we can get good answers. If we have knowledgeable people can be seen by the type of questions that are asked and by who commits to the proposal. – Informaficker Dec 31 '12 at 12:21
@Informaficker, why do you feel the need to in-force this policy? – Chris Jan 1 at 17:08
5
@Chris We don't use comments to answer questions because they were not designed for that function. There's no voting or vetting of content and they cannot be improved or edited like a proper Stack Exchange site. Stack Exchange is designed to assure high-quality answers and your random comments do not assure that at all. Sorry, I need to start removing these posts which are a misuse of this system. – Robert Cartaino♦ Jan 1 at 21:07

2
It also sounds like 3 questions. – Flimzy Jan 1 at 2:18
Those are three cooking questions, and are therefore related to nutrition. – Ivan Feb 27 at 20:10
1
You'd need to define "better", and what you mean by "healthy". Also, this is three different questions. – Kate Mar 6 at 19:54
2
It's a great question for a nutrition site. Cooking is more related to flavor, not health. It's a very practical and relevant one too, as a lot of cooking oils advertise themselves as the healthiest choice. – Muz Mar 7 at 9:13

This question fails to identify a criteria for 'ok' and is ambiguous. – mfg Feb 16 at 16:16
@mfg there is a word limit to questions posted in area 51. I'm sure his criteria of ok will be defined in the actual question. Let's not criticise this question but the imposed word limit here. – Chris Feb 16 at 23:26
1
@mfg, my chosen wording was intentional because of a campaign that ran many years ago with the slogan "An egg a day is ok". As I understand it, the campaign was trying to bring demand back to the level prior to when everyone started worrying about eggs raising their cholesterol levels. This was before science figured out the difference between good and bad cholesterol. I still don't know whether I should be limiting my egg consumption... – Highly Irregular Feb 17 at 9:11
3
@Informaficker - Probably because the amount of egg per serving is negligible. Your average cake recipe will have 2-4 eggs, and yield servings of 10-12 slices. Actual egg per serving would be 1/6 to 1/3 of an egg. – JohnP Mar 13 at 17:01

from Fitness Stack Exchange: Is the book “Wheat Belly” credible? [closed] – 5un5 Dec 19 '12 at 16:18
4
This might be better asked as "Are refined wheat flour products bad for you?" – Highly Irregular Jan 10 at 9:18
@highly-irregular, that's a different question, though. – Kate Jan 31 at 1:53
1
There are other kinds of wheat products too. A good answer would identify which are poor and which are good. – Muz Mar 14 at 0:23
I think this question is far too vague, without defining what is meant by bad and wheat (there are different flour types) this question will receive a variety of answers, all possibly more or less right. Remember: "If you can imagine an entire book that answers your question, you’re asking too much." – Informaficker Apr 5 at 16:17

The poster obviously considered "essential" to be the things necessary for life, not necessarily what a dietitian would consider essential. A good answer would clarify between macronutrients and essential vitamins/minerals. – Chris Mar 14 at 1:51

Are there any good tests (eg. blood tests) or other ways to pin-point nutritional deficiencies in my diet.

At the moment this is a list question and far too broad. One way to ask might be "How to pin-point nutritional deficiencies in my diet?" (but I think that is too broad, too). Or to ask how to determine or test for a specific deficiency. – Informaficker Jan 1 at 13:25

Do fresh vegetables offer a nutritional advantage over frozen vegetables?
added by Chris Feb 5 at 8:11

I think this is a good question, but you'd need to clarify how you'd want to judge "nutritional advantage" in the text of the question. – Kate Mar 6 at 19:34
