I think i'd rather see this as: Are there any nutritional differences in the ways to cook eggs? If so, which way loses the least amount of nutrients? – DForck42 Mar 11 at 15:46
@dforck42 I like your suggestion because it doesn't presume a difference. – Kate Mar 12 at 23:54

How can we easily calculate and recommend how much vitamin C each person needs?
added by Marcy Jan 18 at 13:23
link|flag
I think asking for an "easy" calculation presumes one exists. I think a better question would be "How can we calculate and recommend how much vitamin C each person needs." – Kate Mar 12 at 23:45
1
@Kate, In my opinion, all calculations are "easy", but some appear to be hard because they are not well explained. This question therefore is asking for the calculation to be explained, and to be explained well. – Chris Mar 13 at 3:21

How is sugar converted to fat? How much fat does one gram of sugar make?
added by Muz Mar 7 at 7:17

I'd call this a duplicate of What is the metabolic difference between fat and carbohydrates? There might be more specific aspects that wont get answered in that question, but I'm not sure if we need two question about basically the same in the proposal definition. – Informaficker Apr 5 at 16:25

We're often warned not to eat "processed" foods, but this is very vague. What sorts of processing should be avoided and why?
added by Zelbinian Mar 20 at 2:48
link|flag
I like the core of the question, but I fear it might end up as and open ended list. – Informaficker Apr 5 at 16:21
It might but I don't think that's likely in the hands of a well-versed nutritionist. Can you perhaps suggest a rewording to make it more palatable? – Zelbinian Apr 5 at 23:11
Perhaps the question should just focus on what constitutes "processed" food? The term is thrown around a lot; I'd wonder if there is a generally accepted definition. – JSW189 Apr 22 at 20:44

What should I look for when evaluating foods that will be good for promoting flexibility and building a strong heart?
added by jmort253 Oct 6 '12 at 20:22
link|flag
Would this one be better on PF.SE? This seems like an "...as it relates to fitness" type of question. – Shauna Oct 8 '12 at 19:45
2
@Shauna - This is one of those borderline questions. It could go either way. Keep in mind that just because it may be on topic on Fitness doesn't mean it would be off-topic here. A healthy overlap is actually not a bad thing, as long as the question would be on-topic on this site. :) – jmort253 Oct 9 '12 at 0:43

This is two questions. – Flimzy Dec 28 '12 at 6:56
@Flimsy - Hmm... I thought the same, but I realized that it's actually one question: Looking for foods good for promoting flexibility that also promote building a strong heart. – jmort253 Dec 28 '12 at 7:01
Can foods promote flexibility? If not, this question is not answerable. – Kate Mar 6 at 19:57

I suggest you reword this as "Is a problem where waist size varies substantially over the course of a day linked with nutrition?" – Highly Irregular Nov 26 '12 at 9:00
@HighlyIrregular +1 Thanks for the suggestion and I love the way you phrase it. It look better than how I phrase it previously and exactly what I want to ask. – Jack Nov 26 '12 at 9:48
Reference site has removed question :( My thoughts re an answer: first rule out water weight fluctuations, especially if subject has problems with bloating. – barrycarter Dec 31 '12 at 20:08
The reason why this question was asked is because from my understanding, the stomach is the place where nutrient are being absorb. So, food of poor nutrient was provided, will the waist size be smaller (or be bigger)? I don't know about it but if we look at the 3rd world country where people had little nutrition food, you can see that they have very small waist (adult) and very big waist (children). Seriously, are there relationship between waist size and nutrition? – Jack Jan 4 at 9:01

What anti-inflammatory choices are safe and effective?
added by Marcy Jan 18 at 13:20
link|flag
I think this question is too vague in its current form. Does anti-inflammatory choices refer to drugs? To food? To activities? – Kate Mar 12 at 23:47
@Kate, I think it is clear that anti-inflammatory choices refers to drugs, food AND activites, as opposed to an either or. That is the way the question is stated, so we assume that to be the case, and there is no problem. It is wrong to assume that he means only one of your specific choices. – Chris Mar 13 at 3:18

What are the most critical nutrients missing in a purely vegan diet without supplements?
added by gerrit Jan 29 at 11:51
link|flag
2
This is a list question, without a well defined end-point (most critical isn't a fixed number). However, there probably aren't so many nutrients that this couldn't be answered well. – Kate Mar 6 at 19:35
In this case I agree. The question could be worded as "If I follow a purely vegan diet, what are the most likely nutrients to become deficient?" and it would still produce a list answer, but with the rationale and explanation that would make it a good list question. – JohnP Mar 13 at 17:09
2
@JohnP I fail to see the difference between your version and mine. – gerrit Mar 13 at 17:16
@gerrit - The difference is in the word "critical", at least to my perception. To me, that implies a "gotta have it now or suffer the consequences" kind of thing. However, there are other nutrients that are ok being deficient in the short term, but over the long term will cause serious problems. – JohnP Mar 13 at 17:20

What are my health risks if I follow a severely low fat diet?
added by JohnP Feb 7 at 17:18
link|flag
While this is a list question, it's asks for a finite list that should have a definite answer. I think this is a good question. – Kate Mar 6 at 19:31
@Kate, don't you think he should specify what foods he is including in his low fat diet? – Chris Mar 9 at 3:12
In the eventual question body, yes, that would be a useful addition. – Kate Mar 9 at 3:15
@chris - That's not really needed. If on a severely low fat diet, it's pretty much the fat soluble minerals. Even if eating a ton of everything else, if the fat is not present to transport A,D,E and K, I could be taking 30,000IU per day and still be deficient because there is no way to get it into the body. – JohnP Mar 9 at 14:30
@Kate - While it is a list question, I realized that I asked the question from a position of knowledge. I reworded the question to be more representative of a general question. – JohnP Mar 9 at 14:32
