@Tim Post I'm in fact a medic, but I don't believe that expertise in health is solely granted by a state-approved licence. This is also obviously not intended as a 'how do I perform a laparoscopic appendectomy' type of audience/questions site. In the long run, yes you should consult a doctor for these kind of things but it doesn't hurt to do some online "research" first. – Tomasz Jun 17 '10 at 12:46

I definitely think this site should have a general disclaimer per Tim Post's comment, which would apply to any post unless of course the author is actually a doctor. This brings me to another thought: it should be the convention that any advice given should include a reasonable and clear source, whether it is "it's been my experience that [X]" or "i am a doctor" or a link to a mayo clinic / medical study / wikipedia article. – alexsome Aug 4 '10 at 14:18
