And is this about existing art as well? Or just the creation of new art? ie, would questions about Degas be appropriate? – Beska Jun 18 '10 at 19:18

Too short a name leaves it wide open as to what it's about - making art, teaching it, sellling it, is this an ebay for art dealers, all of these, or what? S.O is quite broad, and a broad site on all aspects of art is okay. But i'd prefer an art-making focus, if I have a say. Hobby and professional, all media and styles. So I say it's gotta be "Art"-something, or paint-something, etc. Too bad "WetCanvas" is already taken...that's probably the main competition this proposed site. – DarenW Aug 2 '10 at 10:54

I second what @Pekka says. Too broad. While some people want to know about Art History, which is one of the great on-topic examples, some other people want to learn how to draw, or apply certain brush techniques, etc. Too broad. – JFW Aug 23 '10 at 3:55

This question /as posed/ is too vague, asking for a "best"; if refined to include context (i.e. for oils? arcylics? watercolor? Bristle murals?) it would be an on-topic question – mfg Apr 19 '11 at 15:53

	I am ambivalent for such question... On one hand, "best" is always subjective, biased, relative to the needs of the person answering (yes, these are synonyms...). On the other hand, questions like "what software do you like" can lead to interesting discoveries, particularly if people argument on the pluses of their choice. – PhiLho Jul 27 '11 at 11:50

Although asking for a list of X, the list would be limited and objective (there is a requirement to be met), and it deals directly with acquiring materials for art creation. As opposed to a broad question asking about (buying) various materials, this one is not overly vague and perfectly limited in possible answers. – mfg Apr 19 '11 at 15:50
