This is certainly an on-topic question. It helps one become a better film-maker, which is a direct goal of this forum. – ekalaivan Sep 18 '10 at 1:27

How to achieve the "deep" contrast in movies like Public Enemies? Other movies look "flat" compared to some of the scenes.

I really don't know how to describe that, but I've seen that in some TV Productions and in that one movie, but I don't know if it's more contrast, higher frame rate or something else. – Michael Stum Jul 9 '10 at 4:12

Could be, but most people who make movies are in just a few areas. – Jack Marchetti Jul 6 '10 at 21:20
... and these "few areas" happen to be: Africa, Antarctica, America, Asia, Australia, and Europe? Remember: The 'net is global :-) – Martin Bøgelund Jul 13 '10 at 8:25

This question is not a good fit to our Q&A format. We expect answers to generally involve facts, references, or specific expertise; this question will likely solicit opinion, debate, arguments, polling, or extended discussion.

This may be an interesting philosophical discussion, but it doesn't really have an answer. Perhaps adding a purpose at the end would make it a bit more relevant. Is 8mm dead for the purposes of... a TV pilot, a short art house film, wrapping around myself for halloween as part of my "film-mummy" costume... etc.. – Alex C Sep 11 '10 at 20:41

I'm no expert, so this question would aim towards equipment where you don't have a Timecode output on your camera that can go into an external audio recorder. – Michael Stum Oct 15 '10 at 8:00
