Biology: Is a virus a living being or not? I think this is a very interesting question. Where is the border line that separates inanimate aggregation of atoms/molecules from the simplest cellular forms of living such as mycoplasma. |

Biology: What is the function of mitotic motors in a cellular body? What are 'mitotic motors'? Maybe rephrased to 'molecular motors in mitosis' it would make sense since they act differently in interphase vs. mitosis. |

Academia: How do you organize your references: do you read PDF files onscreen or print them and highlight by pen? I wanted to put the emphasis more on physical versus virtual papers. Some people prefer a stack of (real) papers with some post-it notes, others organize them in a cabinet sorted by author or topic, others put pdfs in folder structures and yet another group lets the computer do the organising (by using one of the proposed reference managers). |

Biology: How do you organize experiments and results (classic lab journal, electronic, both, date, tags, …)? I try to clarify: suppose you run several experiments in the lab, for which you take notes in your lab journal. Concurrently you do analysis of data from some of the experiments. How can you relate the two, one on paper and one on the computer? Will you have an index of experiments on the computer? Do you just use the date of the experiment/analysis to correlate the two? What happens if you have additional notes later that you want to attach to the experiment? |
