It's going to come up eventually, so can we all agree…Lego bricks *not* Legos?

Should we expand the LEGO proposal to also include other brick families, like K'Nex and Erector?

you mean other than universal tool we all have: our teeth? :) – warren Jul 16 '10 at 12:36
That would be the "right tool" (as my son puts it): bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=6007 – mlschechter Jul 18 '10 at 0:57

The teeth is the tool best available, but it tends to leave bite marks on the bricks. My big brother was very strict with me, so I do not have too many bricks with bite marks... – awe Aug 4 '10 at 7:31

Because the topic is so broad there are too many answers. Remember, the OP would need to be able to pick one as best. I think it would be much better if narrowed down a bit, by specifying what kind of bricks are problem categorizing, etc. – awe Aug 4 '10 at 7:56

eBay. Only a person who's never heard of online shopping would ask this. How about, "a site that specializes in reselling unopened lego sets?" – muntoo Sep 4 '10 at 20:46

How do you clean your bricks? What are the best techniques to remove dust, dirt or grease without putting too much wear on the bricks?
added by RegDwight Aug 17 '10 at 9:46
link
I know answers don't count yet, but an onion bag half to two-thirds full of bricks, tied loosely, and placed in the top of the dishwasher works well... then again, "too much wear" on a LEGO brick seems impossible to achieve! =D – warren Aug 17 '10 at 12:18
@warren: well, you know those tables with built-in bowls full of bricks that are used for promotion in department stores? After just a few days, those poor bricks are usually in a condition that could make a hard man weep. Nothing is amaranthine in presence of children. – RegDwight Aug 17 '10 at 12:52
@RegDwight - I am not familiar with such bowls.. but would love to find a department store that had them :) – warren Aug 17 '10 at 14:49
@warren: strange, I've encountered them in stores all over the world -- Germany, France, Russia... Something along the lines of suhw.de/Hobbywelt/Lego-Ausstellung/Legotisch1.jpg , though that's a different model from the one I'm familiar with. – RegDwight Aug 17 '10 at 15:05
@RegDwight ... that's a completely new idea to me :) – warren Aug 17 '10 at 15:40

I am thinking of things that easily fall apart, and might have solutions to make it more robust without cluttering the design too much. – awe Aug 25 '10 at 8:20
Glue is NOT a good answer to this ... – awe Aug 25 '10 at 8:28

Just to elaborate to the guys who voted "Great Off-Topic Example", LEGO Mindstorms NXT 2.0 IS LEGO. – muntoo Sep 4 '10 at 20:38
We have 3 Mindstorms questions, all by RegDwight. We do need to determine if Mindstorms is on-topic or off-topic. I suggest focussing our votes on THIS question for that purpose. – retracile Sep 7 '10 at 16:39
3
Mindstorms must be on-topic, otherwise there will be very few (good) questions. I just imagine this like mindstorms tag, which would be very nice. EDIT: Ah, there is "Lego Mindstorms Robotics" Q&A. Well, I think these two should be merged, or they will both have few questions. – Oleh Prypin Oct 21 '10 at 15:41

Notice there is a specific area51 proposal for Lego Mindstorms and other robotics activities. As a consequence, this question may be redirected to that proposal, I think. – Riduidel Jul 8 '10 at 15:40
@Riduidel didn't know that until after I put this but figured it is still legitimate. – Kyra Jul 8 '10 at 16:08
5
@Riduidel I doubt there will is room for two separate Lego-related StackExchanges. Mindstorms could be a tag in a general Lego site. – Vebjorn Ljosa Jul 19 '10 at 11:44
Perhaps, but I feel there is more room for questions on the Lego Mindstorms proposal. Besides, we're so close to the commitment phase. – Eric Sep 2 '10 at 20:11

This question brings up a good point. Should the site be for only genuine Lego, or is any Lego compatible bricks fair game? – KeithB Jul 3 '10 at 14:58
Yup. unfortunatly, I don't have an answer to that meta-question ... – Riduidel Jul 5 '10 at 8:27
8
Consider Nnenn's work, Brickarms, Brickforge, and that whole mini-industry of Lego-compatible parts. I think compatible toys should be on-topic. – retracile Aug 16 '10 at 18:58
Especially considering questions of trademark and the eventual naming of this SE site, it should be open to all brick based building systems. – BBlake Oct 31 '10 at 14:44

I think was wondering in the back of my head, will anyone ask a DUPLO question? – Mark C Nov 5 '10 at 22:56
I would imagine so, at some point. But that's not really the pertinent question, is it? The question is, are DUPLO questions on or off topic? – gkrogers Nov 6 '10 at 10:05
