@lukasz why not just embed eidogo? that way we can actually submit variations – baudtack Aug 19 '10 at 18:33
@docgnome: I asked about the pictures because we can embedd them directly into the question. Embed eidogo? How? Will it show directly on the site? Just-a-link is not enough if we want this site to be successful. – Łukasz Lew Aug 19 '10 at 19:15

Strangely, shidogo is still up. Here's an example of how eidogo was used. shidogo.com/questions/5/is-this-corner-killable – baudtack Aug 19 '10 at 19:57

What is the appropriate move in this Joseki? {Joseki picture or description follows}
added by samoz Jul 9 '10 at 14:40

Right... well, according to Kageyama, joseki are highly context-dependent. So, it's not a joseki picture, but a picture of an actual game position, right? Otherwise, why not use a joseki dictionary? – ixtmixilix Jul 31 '10 at 21:25

What are possible black continuations in this mini-Chinese opening?

"this" should be a link: eidogo.com/#1qu8cBB5 – Łukasz Lew Jul 8 '10 at 7:28
This question is quite broad... is there a way to make it a bit more specific? It's not so easy to see how this can be answered in short and concise Q&A style. – mafutrct Aug 11 '10 at 12:47

What is the difference between Chinese and Japanese rules?
added by baudtack Jul 13 '10 at 1:13

This is a Google question folks... A more proper question would be perhaps to ask whether the same game might have a different result if one or the other ruleset was used. – Nicholas Aug 15 '10 at 20:07
Yeah, it is a google question. And the first hit should be on Go Exchange. :-) – baudtack Aug 16 '10 at 15:02

How do you structure the first 2 hours when teaching a group of complete beginners?
added by David Grellscheid Jul 21 '10 at 22:36

Certainly a good question in itself, but very close to "What is the best way to learn/teach Go rules?" – mafutrct Jul 27 '10 at 9:44
This one is even better than "What is the best way to learn/teach Go rules?" as it is more specific and easier to answer. – Łukasz Lew Jul 27 '10 at 10:58
Indeed. I moved my great-on-topic-example vote. – mafutrct Jul 27 '10 at 11:28
BTW. I am interested in the answer today!. What do you do in first 2 h ? – Łukasz Lew Aug 9 '10 at 1:18
2h is very little, maybe just basic rules such as playing on intersections, liberties, atari, ko, not allowed moves and two eyes as a obvious consequence of all the previous as an ending :) – Anonymous Aug 12 '10 at 23:18

How to make a Go board?
added by Łukasz Lew Jul 8 '10 at 7:32
link
I'd say on. It's related but it's also a very narrow niche. – baudtack Jul 13 '10 at 1:16
Not a good example imo. It would be ok to add, but it's not a core topic. – mafutrct Jul 21 '10 at 11:35
Yes, it's on-topic. We'd just need a tag for questions like this -- where to buy stones, boards, how to make boards, how to hold stones, etc... 'physical-related' or something like that. – ixtmixilix Jul 31 '10 at 21:26
Yes, but this specific question is not a core topic. It should be "How to hold stones?" or "Where to buy equipment?" instead. – mafutrct Aug 4 '10 at 13:30
Answer is readily available on Google. Since many of the questions are made off topic for this reason, then this question seems also to be off-topic. – Nicholas Aug 15 '10 at 20:08

Why was this marked as not a good example? This is clearly on-topic... – samoz Jul 18 '10 at 4:09
2
Maybe it is too vague? Try something like "Which ladder breakers are most useful in this situation." And give a link to a go situation (make one on eidogo.com and use save-to-server option) – Łukasz Lew Jul 18 '10 at 10:06

This is very specific, almost too much so. I think it would be better re-phrased as "What is the best introduction to probes," because a lot of online resources might be the best thing out there. – samoz Jul 21 '10 at 12:34

Who invented the avalanche joseki?
added by Nicholas Aug 12 '10 at 19:28
link
I think this hovers between on-topic and off-topic. Knowing who invented a specific joseki might help players, because the inventors of joseki are bound to be really amazingly good. However, it can probably be found on google. A way to change it to on-topic would be to include a JPEG of one of your actual games where you failed to play the joseki to your advantage, and ask players on the site what you did wrong. – ixtmixilix Aug 13 '10 at 15:39

Why is Go so hard to create AI for?
added by Gordon Gustafson, edited by WikiSpeedia hang-around Aug 19 '10 at 17:36

for those of you who don't know: Chess programs can now defeat masters 10 times out of 10, but the best go programs often lose to experienced children. – Gordon Gustafson Aug 12 '10 at 21:36
1
I'm sure most of us know that, since Area51's is an offshoot of stackoverflow.com and serverfault.org -- nonetheless, I think this would make a good on-topic example because the answer would take us into go-strategic domains that may be useful to people's games – ixtmixilix Aug 13 '10 at 15:35
1
On the other hand, it will probably be useless for improving people's games. To improve people's games, there are many sites with Go problems, professional games records, reviews... These are guaranteed to help someone who had time to spend to improve his/her game. Discussing about abstract ideas may appeal to some, though I am not so sure it would improve their game. – Nicholas Aug 15 '10 at 20:00
While certainly very interesting, I think this should be off-topic. Or is there a different public opinion? I would not mind, really.... – mafutrct Aug 19 '10 at 12:02

The answer is obviously "Yes it is playable but of course it is a different game from traditional openings". The important part would be how it is different, but that's a very vague question that probably is not a very good example question. – mafutrct Aug 19 '10 at 12:05
