Hate to edit the proposal without checking, but I would propose inserting the word "Video," at least into the description. It will prevent debates about the appropriateness of discussing Boggle, Ur, or Beer Pong. – Jaydles Jun 1 '10 at 20:35
6
I'm not sure if we would have to start excluding those questions right from the start. Look at gamersqna.com, smartergamer.com and gamelegend.com. All three gaming site, are they flooded with Facebook or iPhone questions? No, because Modern Warfare and World of Warcraft kick their asses. Yes social games are popular, but not with our (current) typical users – Ivo Flipse Jun 1 '10 at 21:16
11
"Gaming" is way too generic. It can also mean gambling. It can also mean tabletop roleplaying/strategy/board games. "Computer and Video Games" would remove all doubt. – Al E. Jun 2 '10 at 15:47

I vote no, even if it would be verifiable, this leads to people predicting when Duke Nukem Forever will be released – Ivo Flipse Jun 1 '10 at 20:57
I need a "Hell no" vote button for this one. – Matt Parker Jun 2 '10 at 1:15

Trick question: To support, or not support, web-based games? To support, or not support, Facebook games? (And if so, does that open up the floor to a zillion Farmville/YoVille/Whateverville questions?) – John Rudy Jun 1 '10 at 20:45
3
I vote no to web-based/Facebook games – juanformoso Jun 1 '10 at 20:46
1
Ah, but is the web not just another platform for delivering a gaming experience? (Please note, I'm devil's advocating this -- I actually agree with you, but I'm trying to spur thought/consideration before a decision is reached by everyone.) – John Rudy Jun 1 '10 at 20:49
3
I think the other gaming platforms have way more traction than Facebook games, so by natural selection these will get less attention. – Ivo Flipse Jun 1 '10 at 20:58
7
I think it's acceptable to support even Facebook games - not my cup of tea, but that's why people write browser extensions to sort Stack questions. This is still off-topic, however, because it's about a release date. – Matt Parker Jun 2 '10 at 1:18

@matt, that has a specific answer – juanformoso Jun 2 '10 at 1:28

Please, no more best-of's! You're killing me! – Ivo Flipse Jun 1 '10 at 21:36
I'd expect this to be a foundation question under the [LAN-Party] tag. There are a select batch of games that are a snoozefest solo, yet screamingly fun in a group. This would be a very popular and much valued question. (replace "the best" with "some good" and that removes most of the problem) – Kara Marfia Jun 8 '10 at 16:36

To broad. Does the author mean console, computer, card games, board games? What type of games does th author like? FPS, casual gaming, MMO? – chollida Jun 1 '10 at 22:12
1
@Ivo - there are plenty of sites which are tracking deals. However, if not talking about digital distribution, this is too localized. This is however not especially subjective, even if written "best". – Gnoupi Jun 2 '10 at 6:19

What are the current game deals (in digital distribution)? (CW)
added by Gnoupi Jun 8 '10 at 9:33
link
This would be a CW question, with one or several answers updated regularly, a bit like the unofficial changelog on Meta, with the current game deals to be found in digital (to avoid being dependent on a country, most of the time). It's not really a Q&A in itself, more something that you would usually see on a dedicated blog or a forum. However it is possible to maintain such thing regularly. – Gnoupi Jun 8 '10 at 9:34
Off topic because it would quickly become outdated. Most proposals are marking timely answers as OT. – Mike Sherov Jun 9 '10 at 0:39

Not at all a duplicate of writing macros. Macros are written with the language / format that Blizzard provides. Addons are written with Xml and Lua. – IAbstract Jun 3 '10 at 11:50
also addons are quite a bit closer to 'game development'. So I think the hidden question is which proposal does this question "feel more natural in." – J T Jun 3 '10 at 21:30

1
I think this is off-topic - there could be as many answers as people on the site. There are already plenty of review sites. If the person has a specific question about the game that might affect whether or not they buy it, that would probably be admissible. – Matt Parker Jun 2 '10 at 1:13
1
For the record, this question is typically copied from any sub category of the Steam forum. Anytime you have a price drop, weekend deal, you have this question popping up. However, this is subjective and argumentative, depends on personal taste. – Gnoupi Jun 2 '10 at 6:10

Such a blurry, blurry line. :) But I'd think off-topic. – John Rudy Jun 1 '10 at 21:23
Some strategies just shouldn't be asked...imo, chess is one of them. There are just too many sources for finding chess strategies... – IAbstract Jun 4 '10 at 23:35
To me, what makes it off-topic isn't so much that, it's that chess strategy is the same with or without the device involved -- IE, if we pull "that came with my Mac" out of the question, the answers are identical, and thus it's totally off-topic for video gaming ... – John Rudy Jun 5 '10 at 2:15
Wait a minute, though. The chess game that comes with a mac employs a specific algorithm, possibly one you wouldnt encounter in a live opponent. Kasporov had a whole set of strategies specifically for computer opponents. Maybe it's the devil's advocate in me, but I'd say this is on-topic. – Mike Sherov Jun 9 '10 at 0:50
