I think it's in, because such config's are not simple. On linux server, you'll have to choose the good pair kernel-filesystem, for example... – Agemen Jun 3 '10 at 6:59
I think this is more to do with sys admin than GIS, I'm inclined to give it a no. – Ti M Jun 3 '10 at 10:17
'images'? map tiles? your photo's? icons? its very general and not specific to GIS. more serverfault for configuring a web server. – Steve Jun 3 '10 at 10:44
I'd say this is in because it would/could be tied to Image Server, MapServer, GeoServer or any other server side tech that's reading a large stack of source images. – Dave Bouwman Jun 3 '10 at 20:02
This should be in, like dbouwman said. – George Jun 6 '10 at 2:54

More specifically, If I create an ArcSDE View based on a layer with an SDO geometry how do I correct my Oracle Layer Spatial Index so that my ArcSDE View displays faster. – DominicDoiron Jun 4 '10 at 11:40

I think it's NaGE: on topic, but maybe would give an impression that software use questions were what the site is about. We'd do better to move the off-topic votes to area51.stackexchange.com/proposals/1425/… – Charles Stewart Jun 10 '10 at 11:38

What GPS hardware is good for tracking vehicles?
added by George Jun 1 '10 at 21:49
link
1
I think in the general sense - i.e., "What features should a vehicle-tracking GPS have?" - this is acceptable. If it's asking for specific hardware recommendations, then no. – Matt Parker Jun 2 '10 at 1:30
I don't see why asking for specific hardware is a bad thing, as long it stays on topic in regards to vehicle tracking GPS. – Nathan W Jun 2 '10 at 1:50
2
I agree that specifics are important in understanding what makes a good GPS device for certain applications. Differenet chipsets used by different manufactures have different strengths. – marsofearth Jun 2 '10 at 6:24
