I find the question poorly worded. How am I supposed to know whether the offer that you received is legitimate or not? It could be either! A better way to put it would be "How can I make sure that the offer <...> is legitimate?" – CesarGon Jan 28 '11 at 0:06

@Mechko : I think a Q/A site is not a good resource for this question. your older colleagues are a much better resource, with the added value that if any answer comes, it's not available for anyone (the professor in particular) to see attached to a name. – Stefano Borini Aug 18 '10 at 16:49

I thnk this is not a good example: not exactly off-topic, but of anecdotal importance. I don't think this should be selected as one of the five representative great on-topic questions for this site. – CesarGon Jan 27 '11 at 23:56

@CesarGon - I think you may have a case, but allow me to offer a counter argument: I think people have voted for this one because they want to show that history questions are out of bounds, and this question conveys that message concisely. – Mark Rogers Jan 28 '11 at 0:04
