You need to use the VALUE() function it converts a text string that represents a number to a number. e.g. VALUE(Text__c) – Mitch Hunt Jan 13 '12 at 0:29

When doing a batch upsert using data loader, will it error if I have multiple records with the same external ID in the batch?
added by Kris Moyse Jan 11 '12 at 2:46
link
You can't do multiple update calls in the same batch, so yes, it will throw an error if you have the same external Id in the same batch. Since an upsert chunks out records into batches of up to 200 records max, it's feasible that you could avoid errors if your dupes ids were in separate batches. – greenstork Jan 23 '12 at 3:17

Best way to monitor adoption for all users (including login rates) is using a free appexchange adoption dashboard, here is the link appexchange.salesforce.com/… – Kris Moyse Jan 10 '12 at 23:38

What is the difference between files, documents and content?
added by Kris Moyse Jan 11 '12 at 2:58
link
1
Files should be used only internally, files can however be posted to chatter in order to collaborate, but they are not meant for customers eyes and cannot be delivered. Documents is used to store web resources such as logos, visualforce materials etc. E.g. for creating a company email template you would upload your logo to documents. Content is used for official documents such as sales presentations. You can subscribe to these files in order to receive updates as well as create packages of multiple content items. You can also use content delivery to send these files or packs to customers. – Mitch Hunt Jan 13 '12 at 0:50

Mitch Hunt, dont forget that files associated with chatter can now be (and should be) seen by customers who are invited to collaborate to private chatter threads within an org. They can in turn be downloaded by customers/partners. – PDH07 Jan 19 '12 at 12:25

There are also "Static Resources" which can be images (logos, icons), css, and js files accessed from Visualforce and other locations. See salesforce.com/us/developer/docs/pages/Content/… – Benj Jan 27 '12 at 18:44

Another difference is that Content is sometimes helpful to use if you have it enabled because it is the only feature license that provides additional storage. From Salesforce.com "Each Salesforce CRM Content User license provides an additional 512 MB of file storage, whether Salesforce CRM Content is enabled or not, bringing the total file storage allocation per user to 612 MB. To find out whether your organization has Salesforce CRM Content enabled, contact your administrator." – Charise VL Jan 30 '12 at 17:44

I need to setup web2lead for salesforce via a wordpress site does anyone know of a suitable plugin that I can use to do this?
added by Mitch Hunt Jan 13 '12 at 1:06
link

You do not need to use a plugin. When you are on a page, change to HTML mode (top right) and paste the details from salesforce.com. I have noticed spacing can be an issue with the comments in the text from salesforce so you may need to delete them. – Kris Moyse Jan 13 '12 at 5:52

There is a Wordpress plugin built by Salesforce.com that can handle this for you. wordpress.org/extend/plugins/… – mkdjns Jan 13 '12 at 20:32

If you use the Salesforce plugin and have spam issues like I did, you can use Formstack.com to connect your wordpress site to salesforce. Formstack isn't free, so you probably want to try the other options first. – Charise VL Jan 30 '12 at 17:49

Trying to set a value for a roll up summary field in the test class to improve code coverage. How do I do it?

This is another question posed on stack overflow, though you needn't be a developer to answer it! stackoverflow.com/questions/8858014/… – LaceySnr Jan 14 '12 at 0:39

You can't set the value of a rollup summary field, however, you can update/insert a child record in a unit test that initiates the rollup summary field to update. – greenstork Jan 23 '12 at 3:19

Changing the StageName on an Opportunity results with - "Error:Value does not exist or does not match filter criteria". Any ideas what can it be?
added by e-bacho 2.0 Feb 9 '12 at 23:38

Sometimes when people do data loads, they load values via Data Loader into picklist fields, but the values don't actually exist in the picklist. Check to make sure the value you are using is actually in the picklist, and also included in the Sales Process for that Opportunity Record Type (if you're using record types). – TweetsMcG Feb 10 '12 at 0:08
Eventually I found out that it has to do something with the lookup to the account but still haven't found what exactly. If I change the lookup to a different account it works... Weird... – e-bacho 2.0 Feb 13 '12 at 4:25

What are the pros and cons of recommending Desk.com over the Service Cloud for customers who are new to the Salesforce platform?
added by Vivek M. Chawla Feb 10 '12 at 21:57
link
I'm currently using Force.com to build a replacement for a legacy Order / Customer management system. One of the benefits of building this on Force.com was the idea that, when the client is ready, we could quickly bolt on heavy duty CRM features by adding Service Cloud licences for CSRs and Support managers. Salesforce's acquisition of Assistly (re-branded as "Desk"), seems to open up a VERY nice alternative. Desk is simply gorgeous, and is light years beyond the Service Cloud in ease (and fun) of use. Am I distracted by the pretty face? What are the reasons for staying with Service Cloud? – Vivek M. Chawla Feb 10 '12 at 22:06
