Please comment if you think this question should be rephrased. I'm not sure if it's phrased properly. – ymar Nov 26 '12 at 23:14

is there a chance for any unknown diseases from unknown bacterias that developed in outer space?

I mean something similar to what happens in the book "The Andromeda Strain" by Michael Crichton. – elyashiv Dec 1 '12 at 16:52

Even if this question sounds stupid, it's perfectly valid. There is a field called space biology, which deals with related issues. One hypothesis is, that e.g. bacteria may have been part of ejecta from meteorite impacts on Earth. Therefore, bacteria could have travelled to another planet, where it might have developed into an unpredictable direction. It is known for a fact, that bacteria can survive in space, unprotected, which was discovered due to the examination of the Surveyor camera arm, brought back from the Moon by Apollo 12. – ernestopheles Dec 9 '12 at 14:47

This question seems awfully broad... – PearsonArtPhoto Aug 16 '12 at 19:26
Probes destined for projects outside of the solar system? – Xantec Aug 16 '12 at 19:42

It just seems to fit too much into the not a real question category... – PearsonArtPhoto Aug 16 '12 at 19:55

On top of too broad, it's time-localized. – Iszi Nov 16 '12 at 15:52

Downvoted, since this is very time-dependent and any answer would be as much as about political hot air as about anything substantial – DarenW Sep 19 '12 at 20:50
i think if you leave out china and the USA, its actually not very political. Japan, India and Europe all have published plans and initiatives. – lyncas Sep 20 '12 at 19:03

This isn't about space travel, and is an overly broad topic anyways. – PearsonArtPhoto Oct 16 '12 at 19:36
Sorry for that. Edited the question. – Aji Maglanque Oct 17 '12 at 3:38
