Where can I find example shell scripts/cron jobs to download news and push them to my reader in a linux environment?
added by martin Jan 8 '13 at 13:27
link
I see two problems with this question: a) it sounds like it's a list question and b) it's probably more ontopic at [Unix.SE]. A better question might be a more general one about how to read the news on your e-reader. – Jon Ericson Feb 14 '13 at 19:51
a) maybe, if there's many places b) no because I want to exclude all the mac/windows apps that might do that as well as the platform specific ones (kindle, nook ...) – martin Feb 15 '13 at 8:10

Is there any way to stop Safari e-book app. from skipping pages when I move to the next page?

Could down voters please comment on how they thing this question could be improved? Are people objecting to the question being about Safari books e-reader app, about it being an unexpected behaviour or the fact that it should really be a bug report to Safari Books Online (the developer) rather than a stack exchange question? Knowing peoples objections could help with defining the scope of this proposal. – Mark Booth Oct 24 '12 at 10:12

Is it perhaps unclear that Safari books (my.safaribooksonline.com) is not the Safari web browser? If people are thinking it's the web browser, they might think this belongs on Super User. – dangowans Nov 5 '12 at 0:55
@dangowans - Very possibly, I've updated my question to make it more clear. Looks like at least one downvote has since been retracted, since there is now only a single downvote on the question. – Mark Booth Nov 5 '12 at 10:02

Could my eBook reader be infected by a virus?
added by Nicolás Feb 6 '13 at 13:38

Interesting question! Given the title alone it sound more like a hypothetical (and neferious!) question: "How can I write a virus to infect an eBook reader?" Perhaps better is: "Could my eBook reader be infected by a virus?" Or possibly: "Is there anything I should do to protect my eBook reader from viruses?" (I image the real question would clarify things in the body of the question, of course.) – Jon Ericson Feb 14 '13 at 19:59
Good comment! I've stolen one of your ideas and edited the question accordingly. – Nicolás Feb 15 '13 at 4:33

Note: for those not familiar with this eReader, only a small portion of base storage is available for content not purchased directly through the manufacturer's store. – Beofett Jan 25 '13 at 15:42

How do I use Internet Relay Chat clients like mIRC or Colloquy to get ebooks ?
added by SashaZd Jan 9 '13 at 14:09

Yes, this is a better question. (I voted to close as duplicate, but it's not, of course. Oops!) Even so, I don't think the question would work on the actual site. It seems to be more about IRC than ebooks. But we only have the title of the questions at this stage, so the body could clarify things. (And I should note that I don't see what special connection IRC has to ebooks. It sounds like functionally the same question as "How can I use a web browser to get ebooks?" That is just too basic of a question.) – Jon Ericson Feb 14 '13 at 20:06

This question is not a good fit to our Q&A format. We expect answers to generally involve facts, references, or specific expertise; this question will likely solicit opinion, debate, arguments, polling, or extended discussion.

Which IRC (Internet Relay Chat) chat rooms or servers can I use to download ebooks ?

This is a question I hunted around the net for a lot when I started off reading ebooks. – SashaZd Oct 19 '12 at 11:24

I actually think this is a good example of a question we should not encourage. Basically it comes down to a list question, which quickly becomes out of date and doesn't really teach anything new. Perhaps a better question would be related to the mechanics of getting an ebook via IRC or somesuch. That's a bit less likely to change over time. – Jon Ericson Oct 30 '12 at 18:39
Maybe, but thing is, even if you tell someone how to get an ebook via IRC, they still need to know possible servers or chat rooms where they will get books. I guess both would be valid questions…. but still different enough to merit their own Q – SashaZd Oct 31 '12 at 6:57
I'm wondering, would questions along the lines of "Is there an IRC channel that offers [textbooks about materials science|children's books|amateur poetry]" be more appropriate? If the scope is limited enough, it really wouldn't be a list answer, and it'd be decidedly helpful, and would also show up on Google searches. Although it'd indeed tend to promote what's often an illegal activity. – SáT Jan 31 '13 at 0:36
Jon :: I actually have added that very same question on Jan 9th, if you still think its a good idea, can you vote it up so that we can move on with the proposal :) – SashaZd Jan 31 '13 at 9:20
