or: is it advisable to run a Tor node at home from a home connection? – blau Jun 14 '13 at 7:44
this q is a response to the advice to set-up a relay/exit on amazon using their first-year-free-tier-for-new-customers package. the answers i would hope to see might provide alternatives in addition to running a node at home. that said @blau, yours is a good question too and I've proposed it. – jah Jun 14 '13 at 22:17

This question is not a good fit to the Q&A format. Answers should generally involve facts, references, or specific expertise; this question will likely solicit opinion, debate, arguments, polling, or extended discussion. – AsheeshR Jun 15 '13 at 3:17

Not nearly as much as declining to address the question. – Marsh Ray Jun 17 '13 at 21:34

Perhaps, "I heard Tor was started by the U.S. Navy and still receives substantial U.S. government funding. How is the U.S. government and military related to Tor?" – pebbles Jun 18 '13 at 12:53
Any bit of discussion that cannot be factually answered is generally not welcome in SE. – AsheeshR Jun 19 '13 at 7:20
That the US Navy sponsored some of the early research in onion routing is a known fact. I don't see anything problematic about that per se, but it probably raises a concern for some people. It's entirely reasonable that the question of Tor's funding will come up and it can and should be answered easily with facts. – Marsh Ray Jun 24 '13 at 0:36
