Why do AI Algorithms have problems with context and how can this problem be solved?

Seems to vague to me - is "context" a precise AI term? – BartoszKP Aug 17 '13 at 21:42
@BartoszKP: I believe this should be explained in actual body of the question. Example of such problem in real life - a big failure of military neural network for recognizing civilian vs military vehicles. Vehicles on green wall background are military, vehicles with horizon and sky in the background are civilian. – SF. Nov 21 '13 at 12:18
@SF Your example is nothing more than an example of either over-fitting, lack of representative data samples, or maybe poor classifier design. – BartoszKP Nov 25 '13 at 20:23
@BartoszKP: Teaching data samples with unintentional bias introduced by human error resulting from failing to understand how neural networks work. Two entities were producing the two data sets independently. The context of the photo - everything that was not the subject: background, lighting, camera settings - bore more meaning to the network than the actual subject (the vehicle). – SF. Dec 2 '13 at 8:48

Is there any effective way to make an AI self-aware? [closed]

closed as not constructive by Robert Cartaino Nov 4 '13 at 13:39

This question is not a good fit to our Q&A format. We expect answers to generally involve facts, references, or specific expertise; this question will likely solicit opinion, debate, arguments, polling, or extended discussion.

This seems as a very bad question. There is no good definition of "self-aware", nor "make AI self-aware" nor "effective way to ...". It is the same as asking "Is there any effective way to become a god?" when there is no "general" definition of the "god" entitity, nor any known way of becoming one – lejlot Oct 27 '13 at 10:00

Why was this upvoted? There is no way to answer this as this question would only lead to a discussion of the premises of the question. – JDong Oct 27 '13 at 20:31

On electronics.SE they are called shopping questions and they get downvoted and closed faster than anything. Even if you get helpful answers, the question is too localized. After a year or two the answers will all be out of date and no longer helpful. – trav1s Jul 25 '13 at 2:08
