Fine. I used the wrong technical term as non-developers will. Question is still relevant and doesn't need to be downvoted. How do I hide a block? Is CSS the only way? Or is there a setting that I can use? (I'm playing typical user here. As a developer, I would use the CSS method.) – lonehorseend Sep 4 '13 at 18:27

I don't think that this question deserved a -1. The question is pretty clear despite the technical mistake. In a real QnA we could point out the technicality in the comments that Joomla 3 by default doesn't have a "mobile only" template. – moomoochoo Sep 7 '13 at 1:02

I think this is a good question. It would not have a Joomla manual answer but would be joomla centric, as you can have extra module positions and then use css or JS to show and hide them for widths of site. – tristanbailey Oct 23 '13 at 15:20

My only concern with including component and plugin into the question is that it might make it overly complex (I don't know what is involved in integrating ajax though, so this could be a moot point). – moomoochoo Nov 24 '13 at 2:03

The easiest way to do this for in house development would be to set it up then use Akeeba Backup and Kickstart to backup and restore your infrastructure. – Michael Sep 3 '13 at 15:24

I'd specify which versions of Joomla you were talking about. Other than that, I think this type of question would be well suited to a Joomla Stackexchange. Use layout overrides in the /html/ folder of the active template. The overrides need to be added in a folder with the same name as the module folder, and the same name as the PHP file found in the /tmpl/ folder of the module. – Andrew Eddie Nov 11 '13 at 11:35

	Yes. In general, 3.x performs a bit better than 2.5, but a lot of that will ultimately depend on your hosting environment and how your site is configured. From experience, sites running Joomla 3 on PHP 5.4 are much faster than sites on Joomla 2.5. – Michael Sep 3 '13 at 15:20

	@ContextSwitch, you're asking a different question. You might have having performance issue due to to many scripts being loaded, a possible PHP loop, poor hosting etc etc. You question would be best asked on Serverfault – Lodder Sep 6 '13 at 2:33
