Under what circumstances is the Dutch auction efficient?
added by Maroon May 16 '14 at 18:45
link
I'm asking this mostly in a mechanism design-ish capacity, if that isn't clear enough. – Maroon May 16 '14 at 19:15
1
I would be inclined to delete the word "model" from your question. – Ubiquitous May 20 '14 at 15:37
@Ubiquitous: any specific reason why? – Maroon May 20 '14 at 15:40
2
@Maroon: It is not clear what it means for a model to be efficient. I guess that a more long-winded and less precise way of putting your question would be "When does a Dutch auction allocate the object for sale to the bidder who values it the most?" In that case, I think one would usually say that the auction is efficient, not that the model is efficient. – Ubiquitous May 20 '14 at 15:51
@Ubiquitous: agreed; after thinking about it again that makes sense, and I'm not sure why I used the word "model" here. – Maroon May 20 '14 at 16:47

How does one intuitively explain the "Lucas critique"?
added by Soccerman Feb 28 '14 at 13:28

4
This question is too pedagogical and broad. It's "What is the Lucas Critique" with the added nuance that the asker asks not for their own benefit, but for the benefit of anyone in a position to learn about the Lucas Critique from them. Additionally, without knowing the audience (Undergrad econ students, Grad students, PhDs in other fields, Preschoolers, etc.), there's almost no way to "intuitively" explain anything. While the Lucas Critique is obviously an excellent topic for discussion here, this question isn't the basis for it. – Tony Mar 7 '14 at 16:16
2
I disagree, why would you have to define the lucas critique first? Anyone asking this, would probably have some understanding of this question, otherwise they probably wouldn't ask it. As to the audience - if you make that assumption, how would you ever answer any question? An intuitive answer is something a layman would understand. – Soccerman Mar 17 '14 at 9:54

"quality of service" seems to need to be defined, and I'm not sure if using "economy" (instead of, say "firm") here is appropriate. – Maroon May 20 '14 at 16:49

Possibly too broad - while this isn't a bad question per se it doesn't seem the most appropriate for a straightforward answer, and "why" is perhaps hard to answer at times. – Maroon May 18 '14 at 22:34
