There was a previous attempt that did not make it and moved to openscience.uni-bielefeld.de - what would be the advantage of a new attempt here?

Or Bitbucket, for that matter. Do you want to ask how to use git or any distributed version control system for open science? Because the server could be on the university server as well. – Turion Apr 5 '14 at 22:34

I'd argue this question is on-topic, as alternative measures of impact are one of the important topics in the Open Science community. – Bolo Feb 21 '14 at 15:16
Citation count is a very useful estimate of how much a paper has contributed, but only an estimate. Any information on alternative estimates will help give a more balanced insight. In particular, in open science, a high citation count can be associated with less scientific but more popular papers. Other measures are essential. – githubphagocyte Mar 14 '14 at 23:11

best repositories for TB-scale data?

This question is likely to change dramatically over time. Questions like this do not fit the SE Format well. A better version would be How can I find a suitable repository for TB-scale data. – Chad Jun 11 '14 at 20:43
@Chad Jun 11 at 20:43: "Questions like this do not fit the SE Format well." Really? The question "What are the best options for publicly sharing a big research data set (tens of GBs)?" (added by Bolo Feb 21 at 11:36) has 11 upvotes, with no whining :-) – TomRoche Jul 8 '14 at 20:54
TomRoche - One is asking for options, like find a repository, print it all out and file it under unreadable, etc. This is asking for the best specific place to put the data. You may think Terahost is best while I think MarsLink is far superior. In a few year both of those hosts could be gone and the question and its answers are worthless. Its not whining its stating a fact but continue to be rude if you like. – Chad Jul 8 '14 at 20:59

Do you want to include repos which are "scrapable" or just the ones with APIs? – Lucas Soares Jul 7 '14 at 18:15
1
@Lucas Soares: 'include repos which are "scrapable" or just the ones with APIs?' APIs greatly preferred; scrapable acceptable only where the UI is simple (e.g., not much javascript, easy to navigate computationally) and where the designers prioritize scrapability (e.g., layout changes slowly). – TomRoche Jul 8 '14 at 20:49

Which country? All countries? (if all, I'd vote to close as being too broad) – Highly Irregular Jun 20 '14 at 2:17
I would expect answers along the lines of "This will vary widely depending on your government" with links to sources on governments known to make all research open and exceptions for certain types of sensitive research. – githubphagocyte Jun 20 '14 at 9:08
If someone wants to add an example question "Does Welsh government funding for scientific research automatically demand the results be open?" then we can see how the voters respond to the same question in broad or narrow form. – githubphagocyte Jun 20 '14 at 9:10
