The 'Travel' idea is great. But the description is too esoteric, but be better if the description more plainly stated the target audience, which is independent travellers? – Dan Aug 3 '10 at 18:00
13
@Dan I agree, I haven't had a chance to travel much and thus feel excluded from the current description. – Sam Aug 12 '10 at 19:41
7
Agree with others... not a fan of the description but like the travel concept in general. – g . Aug 18 '10 at 20:31

How do I use the Tokyo subway?
added by octa Jul 16 '10 at 0:38
link
2
It's a bit unspecific. – gsharp Jul 16 '10 at 11:51
I disagree, I think it's just involved, as you need to cover several aspects: how to read the subway map, how to buy a ticket, how to validate the ticket, and any other useful information (how many zones a ticket is used for, how long can you use a single ticket for transfers etc). It would take a long answer for sure, but I think it's constrained well enough to be answered by someone who is an expert on tokyo subways. – Alan Jul 16 '10 at 12:36

I voted this as a great off-topic example because it seems like more of a trivia question than a travel question. Also this question could be different for people depending on their location, race, languages spoken, religion, etc. – theycallmemorty Jul 14 '10 at 13:01

It's a bout work and not about travel. – gsharp Jul 16 '10 at 11:52
True gsharp, but then a great deal of the travellers I have met in Australia are there for a longer period and are doing a bit of work. Though it's perhaps better for a discussion forum than a Q&A site as the locations would probably move from month to month. – Spedge Jul 17 '10 at 11:40

Not voting on this one, but even though it is work-related, the poster says "casual work", which probably means he wants to travel there and work for a while. In my opinion, this is both work- AND travel-related. – malvim Jul 30 '10 at 21:23
I'd say this is borderline between on and off topic. Therefore, not a good example – matt burns Aug 16 '10 at 18:29

added by pramodc84, edited by WikiSpeedia hang-around Oct 4 '10 at 20:45

This question is too broad and more suited to a discussion board. A better question might be: 'As an American traveling to India what is the biggest culture shock that I should prepare for?' – g . Aug 15 '10 at 19:44
@g If you replace "Country X" with "the USA" and "Country Y" with India, that's pretty much exactly what is being asked. – Dan Dyer Aug 26 '10 at 22:54
@Dan That can happen for anybody if you are visiting japan china, India, USA or UK any country which are culturally different. Different people, different view and different understanding --> Cultural shock – pramodc84 Aug 27 '10 at 2:07
@pramodc84 I agree, I was disagreeing with g's criticism of the question. – Dan Dyer Aug 28 '10 at 12:47

This is subjective, because people's pallettes vary from person to person. I think a better worded question might be "What are some recommended dishes to try while in greece?" Obviously the answer is Fried Cheese Balls :D – Alan Jul 16 '10 at 12:38

Really? I didn't feel this was a particularly good example as it is very simple (if you hit this site, then you can probably google what the capital of Spain is) and it's not like there's going to be opinions or suggestions from fellow travellers. – Spedge Jul 11 '10 at 9:26
@Spedge: so try yo add greater off-topic examples! However this means that "geographic questions" are off topic in a travel Q&A site. – Lorenzo Jul 11 '10 at 11:40
Hmm, I guess that's a fair point - but perhaps it should be a bit more niche than the capital of Spain? I shall try to add some examples :) – Spedge Jul 11 '10 at 14:06
I think for a question with such an easy to find answer is off-topic, but less trivial questions like this might be on-topic – BudgieInWA Oct 26 '10 at 20:28
