This makes more sense being posted to skeptics.SE – thinly veiled question mark May 16 '14 at 5:18

I think this question is certainly on-topic here (perhaps as well as being on-topic at Skeptics SE). Considering that this would be a site with professional dietitians, I would personally choose to ask it here. – Garrett Sep 17 '14 at 18:53
I agree with Garett. More generally, quite a few question on skeptics regarding health are posted there due to the lack of a Health SE. – Franck Dernoncourt Oct 16 '14 at 14:26

How have local anti-vaccine movements affected the number of whooping cough cases in America?

Interesting example question. Should this be on-topic? On one hand, it seems to not be directly about health. A question like "Does the vaccine _ prevent whooping cough?" would certainly be on-topic. Then again, "physicians, doctors, medical specialists" would probably be well-equipped to answer such a question. – Garrett Mar 11 '14 at 7:51
This may be a question for Skeptics S.E. – L.B. Oct 16 '14 at 20:10

What occurs in the body during a "chemical pregnancy"?
added by Brian Rushton Mar 9 '14 at 23:55
link
For one thing, the lactolose levels in the brain rise, causing adipose - or breast tissue - to form around the chest muscles regardless of gender. Weight gain and edema, being retention of water in the feet, especially - for pregnancy - is possible. Lactation is the biggest symptom that seems to arise, given - again - the hormonal changes that force the body to assume a pregnancy is actively happening. In the rare few that a thicker layer of adipose tissue continues to cover the body throughout life instead of simply before birth, the risk of breast cancer is enormous. – user2089746 Jun 30 '14 at 6:14
Actually, the purpose of Area51 is not to answer the questions but to determine whether these questions are on topic and interesting/relevant. Thanks for explaining though! – Shlublu Oct 8 '14 at 9:18

What are the preferred treatments for a case of anosmia due to sinusitis?
added by Brian Rushton Mar 9 '14 at 23:56
link
This is intentionally 'borderline', because it is essentially asking for medical advice. I believe such questions shouldn't be allowed, so I'm throwing a close vote. If you do believe it should be allowed, please explain in the comments. – Brian Rushton Mar 9 '14 at 23:57
It seems like it may be helpful to have the site allow people to ask for medical advice. Is your concern that we might have non-professionals giving shoddy advice to people? If so, I'd like to hear your thoughts - there's a discussion on this here. Or if you have other concerns, perhaps you could start up another discussion? – Garrett Mar 10 '14 at 10:06
I think someone should be permitted to ask a question like this - only if they make it clear they are simply asking a question and not looking for medical advice. If they are looking for medical advice then yes, perhaps it would be a wise idea to start a new site where medical advice can be sought. – L.B. May 2 '14 at 21:48

Are there any scientifically proven benefits of performing fellatio?

This assumes that there are any such; that assumption rests on facts not yet in evidence. – Jenny D Apr 27 '14 at 8:14
4
@JennyD, that could be part of the answer. But I suppose the question could be worded a bit more openly, like Are there any scientifically proven benefits of performing fellatio?. – Zephyrus May 3 '14 at 20:39
If there are none, the answer can be "there are none" – ZSW Aug 21 '14 at 12:28
Like Zephyrus proposed, the question is much better worded as 'Are there any scientifically proven benefits of performing fellatio?' Changed it. – kdzia Sep 5 '14 at 8:03

Is using a foot pedal to send mouse clicks and/or modifier keys RSI-prone?
added by Franck Dernoncourt Jun 19 '14 at 20:05
link
Can you clarify the question? What is RSI? how does it relate to health and foot pedals? – James Jenkins Jun 20 '14 at 11:20
1
RSI = Repetitive strain injuries. Using a foot pedal to send mouse clicks and/or modifier keys means you'll use a lot your ankle, and I wonder how easily you could get RSI this way. Foot pedal is often mentioned as a way to reducing the use of the arms (to avoid RSI there). – Franck Dernoncourt Jun 20 '14 at 15:10
