It's difficult to tell what is being asked here. This question is ambiguous, vague, incomplete, overly broad, or rhetorical and cannot be reasonably answered in its current form.

Similar to the 'ray tracing vs. path tracing' question, but a bit more in depth. While path tracing clearly has more features than Whitted ray tracing, the advantage over distribution ray tracing is not intuitively clear (at least to me). – Daerst Jun 5 '15 at 6:58
