The top voted solution here is undesirable, because it opens up a ton of tiny windows if there are a lot of matches. I still have not found a satisfactory solution to this. – void-pointer Jan 21 '15 at 16:37

It's difficult to tell what is being asked here. This question is ambiguous, vague, incomplete, overly broad, or rhetorical and cannot be reasonably answered in its current form.

How do I set/where to configure default tab width for source code files?
added by guido Jan 6 '15 at 22:57

Perhaps better phrased as: "How can I set a default tab width for a specific file type"? As this is, AFAIK, not a Java-specific question. – Carpetsmoker Jan 6 '15 at 23:21

How can I check python source code for syntax errors from within Vim?

I don't think we want to allow "does vim has a plugin for foo"-type of questions, for the same reason that SO (& most other?) SE sites disallow it... Not all is lost for this question, though. Phrased as "How can I check Python source code for syntax errors from within Vim" (or some such) doesn't suffer from the "recommend me a foo" problem, and also opens up the question for answers which don't use a plugin to solve this problem (which is not just possible but also easy). – Carpetsmoker Jan 6 '15 at 23:20
@Carpetsmoker, Good observation. I've updated the question. – drs Jan 9 '15 at 0:07

added by sanjab Jan 17 '15 at 14:28

I'm not sure if this is a good question, as such ... It seems to be asking for "off-site resources", which is considered Off-Topic for most SE sites... Maybe a better question is to ask "How do I install a plugin in Vim?" – Carpetsmoker Jan 21 '15 at 1:37
@Carpetsmoker I'm not so sure. If this were asked on U&L or AskUbuntu, I'd expect to see answers mentioning vundle, or vim-addon-manager, and perhaps guides on installing them, but not installing other non-plugin-managing plugins. – muru Jan 21 '15 at 14:56

This sounds to me like something that should be handled by your input device or OS. You can use a ton of remaps in Vim but I don't think it would be a good solution. – superjer Jan 22 '15 at 2:28

Where can I get guidelines to create a vim plugin?
added by laconbass Jan 21 '15 at 0:57

This seems 1) asking for a link to the documentation (ie. not a real question), and 2) Too broad. – Carpetsmoker Jan 21 '15 at 1:33
@Carpetsmoker I ended up with this after concluding "how do I create a vim plugin?" being too broad, as you note. – laconbass Jan 21 '15 at 4:16
