When learning multiple languages, is it better to learn similar languages together (ie Germanic languages), or non-similar languages?
added by multipotentiality Dec 17 '15 at 19:29

For example; if you have a list of four languages to learn; Japanese, Mandarin, Danish, German. Would it be better to learn Japanese and Mandarin, and then Danish and German. Or would it be better to learn Japanese and Danish, and then Mandarin and German? – multipotentiality Dec 17 '15 at 19:30

"minority language"? – Dan Getz Dec 31 '15 at 16:37
This seems too broad to me; I think it would depend too much on the language in question. – Alex A. Jan 3 '16 at 20:40

Which Tatar alphabet would be most effective to communicate with modern native speakers?
added by Alex A. Jan 3 '16 at 20:46

For a little background, there are currently two Tatar alphabets in use: Zamanalif (Latin-based) and Cyrillic. The latter is the official alphabet (due to Russian law, IIRC) but I've read that Zamanalif has significant usage, especially online. – Alex A. Jan 3 '16 at 20:48

Is `Muzzy come back` a useful resource for teach adults/ children who want to study a foreign language at home?

This sounds like a very subjective (opinion-based) question. Is there any way it can be made more objective? – Flimzy Jul 2 '15 at 21:20
@Flimzy: how about: what element of "Muzzy come back" would help teachers to teach students at home? – Ooker Oct 18 '15 at 11:21
@Ooker: Perhaps "What are the common criticisms about X method?" or "What are the strengths of X method?" – Flimzy Oct 18 '15 at 11:44
@Flimzy I don't think that a specific cartoon can be considered to be a method. Different cartoons have different effect. Or not? – Ooker Oct 18 '15 at 11:52

This question is not a good fit to our Q&A format. We expect answers to generally involve facts, references, or specific expertise; this question will likely solicit opinion, debate, arguments, polling, or extended discussion.

Most (all?) stack exchange sites don't accept list questions, because they're often incredibly broad. This one is no exception. How do you define "related"? – Nathaniel Nov 13 '15 at 15:35

Apps/ebooks to look up word for translation & get many options with context/examples? Like traditional translation dictionaries, not Google translate.

You might add web sites that provide translation examples. – user3169 Oct 4 '15 at 2:33
It's hard to answer such a question if you don't specify which language you are interested in. – michau Dec 25 '15 at 7:53
