This seems more like a travel question to me. It is true that in the context of the question you are moving to the country, but it can be rephrased to, "If I enter [country] with a [visa type], can customs search my hard drive?" which would be considered on-topic at Travel.SE. – todofixthis Jul 7 '13 at 5:37

Far too subjective. – Flimzy Jun 23 '13 at 7:59
More too vague. There are a group of common WTFs when moving from country A to country B. – Donaudampfschifffreizeitfahrt Jun 25 '13 at 19:43
Still, I think there are alot of generalizations that could be made, and this is a very useful topic for someone considering moving abroad. – random_forest_fanatic Jul 15 '13 at 11:34
The question as it stands encourages polling and storytelling. There might be a usable question here, but it needs to be reworded, and preferably made more specific/actionable. – todofixthis Jul 15 '13 at 13:14

too broad, don't you think? it's a list question – Sklivvz Aug 19 '13 at 10:12
I don't think so. Obviously I would not expect a legislation course. It's because there some thing that are normal in one country and illegal in others that most people don't know. For instance, "drinking alcoholic drinks in the street" is a common thing to do in Europe and forbidden in US (as far as I know). I was trying to focus on those things can most people wouldn't remember to ask. – cinico Aug 19 '13 at 14:08

What are the legal documents / requirements to [work/start a business/own real estate/etc.] in [country]?
added by peteroak Aug 5 '12 at 11:08

This Q is very general and ultimately answerable with a link to Timatic. Should be offtopic. – bytebuster Aug 14 '12 at 3:43
oh cool, i didn't even know timatic. – peteroak Aug 14 '12 at 10:57
"Staying" simply requires a tourist visa, and you can ask about that on Travel.SE. Perhaps a better question to ask would be, "What are the requirements to [work/start a business/own real estate/etc.] in [country]?" – todofixthis Aug 22 '12 at 22:36
1
i was thinking more of the legal aspects of opening a business or accepting a job in a foreign city. I don't know if "requirements" is too broad. – peteroak Aug 24 '12 at 15:58
1
@bytebuster I think giving a link to Timatic is a valid answer for such a question. As you see the OP was happy to receive that piece of information. There's already a lot of information available on the web, but finding it is another story - not even mentioning the difficulty of finding reliable sources. Here's where a Q&A site can truely shine imo. – Rafael Cichocki Mar 6 '13 at 12:14

What is "reverse culture shock" and how can it affect me?
added by Rafael Cichocki Mar 17 '13 at 2:14
link
The first part of this question is a simple definition--use google. The second part is entirely too subjective, as it affects everyone differently. – Flimzy Jun 23 '13 at 8:00
@Flimzy So anything that can be found on the internet by googling is off topic. What's the point of SE if not to offer different views and rate them by voting? Btw. reverse culture shock is not dictionary entry, it's a concept to be explained and understood. And the second part would probably be fixed if the question was rephrased as "... how does it affect people"? Most people ask questions because of personal involvement, and not out of scientific interest. This question naturally implies some sort of suggestion on how to deal with it. – Rafael Cichocki Jun 23 '13 at 13:32
1
@Rafael: There are questions that are "too simple" for SE. I think "What is reverse culture shock?" is one such question. (Answer: bit.ly/17wfWAu) How it can affect "people" or "me" is too subjective for SE. That's not to say there couldn't be a good question about RCS on SE, but it would need to be far more specific. – Flimzy Jun 23 '13 at 19:03

Moving to Austria from london - How to find work?
added by Jamie Hutber May 17 '13 at 14:33
link
This is too vague to be useful. The "from London" part doesn't add anything to the question (i.e., this is not specifically an expat question). Also, you don't indicate what kind of work, which would be pretty important to a question like this. Also, the question as it stands encourages lists of service providers, which is not really a good fit for SE. Two ideas for related questions that would be on-topic: "What are the requirements for a UK citizen to get a job in Austria?" or "Is it possible to find/apply for work in Austria without having to physically be there?" – todofixthis Jul 15 '13 at 13:23

Let's say that i want to move to Berlin and enjoy the great startup movement there. My company does webservices, so i need access to high speed fiber. Does fiber cover all of Berlin? – peteroak Apr 28 '13 at 14:45
That would be a better question. Consider editing this one or posting a new question. – todofixthis Jul 15 '13 at 13:20
I've edit it. another example ( a real one, actually) is: I have a car running on GPL/LPG. I'm planning to move to Marrakech in Morocco. Is it common to find these gas stations and where can i find them? – peteroak Jul 19 '13 at 11:45

Needs a location to be on-topic, and unless you are asking about whether there's a legal requirement, the answer to this question might be subjective. – todofixthis Jul 15 '13 at 13:27
