I'm thinking about joining a dating service, what questions should I ask about the service?
added by Guy Coder Sep 29 '12 at 1:35

I really like this question because the answers would give you the skills to evaluate any service, not just provide a list of things. +1 – jmort253 Sep 29 '12 at 21:16
@Guy - Actually, this is a form of gaming the system and simply opens the door for people to vote down good questions and bring them below 10. Please see this Stack Exchange answer for more details. If Stack Exchange wanted questions to be capped at 10, they would have implemented this feature instead of declining it. Hope this helps! – jmort253 Feb 3 '13 at 18:52

We've been together for 4 years now. How do I know when is the right time to propose?
added by jmort253 Sep 28 '12 at 6:42

This one really needs more detail to be answered properly-- do you guys talk about your relationship already, what are his/her expectations, etc. – PixelDirigible Dec 6 '12 at 1:34
2
@Pixel - This is just an example question to help define the site topic, and I'm quite the opposite of being in a long term relationship. I also have 65 characters left to work with in the example, which isn't much room. On the actual launched beta, I'd expect to see more detail in the question in order for it to be useful, and the question box would have lots of room to expand. Hope this helps! :) – jmort253 Dec 6 '12 at 3:55

Makes sense-- I was a bit confused when I first joined and was actually answering instead of talking about the questions >< It's clearer now. – PixelDirigible Dec 6 '12 at 5:13

Some girls say they want to be desired, how can one show desire without being too needy?
added by phwd Oct 2 '12 at 2:17

Good question, although you are leading with a pre-conceived notion of what all women want. Perhaps this could be edited, "Girls SAY that they want to be desired..." – maple_shaft Oct 2 '12 at 13:15

When is it appropriate to maintain eye contact and when can it be shown to intimidate or induce desire?

Why would you ever want to intimidate your partner? – maple_shaft Oct 2 '12 at 13:12

Eye contact has very different meanings in different cultures, so this one should be appropriately scoped by country/region/something. – TRiG is Timothy Richard Green Nov 23 '12 at 21:40

the answer will vary depending on opinion. Its doesnt fit Q&A format – Xitcod13 Oct 16 '12 at 14:14
1
@Xitcod13 not necessarily. If the OP provides enough background, it could narrow it down. I.E. how close you are to the friend, how "bad" the guy is, etc. – Cole Johnson Dec 27 '12 at 2:18
@Cole: if your [sic] a guy, then, according to your description of her, she's more likely to hook up with you. I was just being facetious though. – Gerrat Dec 27 '12 at 15:30

Yeah seriously. If people want a place to bitch and moan about the "friend zone" they should probably just stay on reddit and/or the rest of the internet – PixelDirigible Dec 6 '12 at 1:38

I am gay, and my bf wants to introduce me to his family. They accept he is gay, but is it inappropriate to show physical affection in front of them?

We don't know the boyfriend's family. It's impossible to answer this question. – EpsilonVector Nov 7 '12 at 14:01

Consider providing details about the boyfriends family. Was the dinner their idea? Do they just accept him, or do they support him? How much displays of affection are provided by heterosexual couples within that family? – Danimal Nov 15 '12 at 20:30

Aren't you supposed to pick them up, not meet somewhere? – Cole Johnson Apr 12 '13 at 7:21
1
This is a very culturally-dependent question. In many cities/countries where many people don't drive cars, picking up your date is often not expected, so meeting somewhere would be appropriate (@ColeJohnson). – Flimzy May 28 '13 at 20:15

I'm not sure if "Relationships" includes friends (notably in a non-romantic context, unlike the question about telling a friend you "like" them), so this seemed like a good way to bring it up. – chaosys Dec 7 '12 at 1:05

What alternatives to marriage exist to formalize a relationship?

Seems like a list question, unless you can provide more specific guidelines. I'm thinking, for instance "Marriage is not possible/desirable for me because of X. What legal/social/etc alternatives exist for me and my partner to formalize our relationship in our situation?" – Flimzy May 28 '13 at 20:00

In my opinion that question doesn't fit this size since it isn't about Relationships and Dating but about friendship to your close friend and his relationship. – danijar Apr 4 '13 at 18:24

The subject of the proposal is relationships, not relationships I'm in. I think excluding discussion directly relevant to relationships because they're about other people's relationships will cut out a significant amount of quality content, for what seems a rather arbitrary reason. – Beofett Apr 4 '13 at 18:27

It's impossible to answer this question. We don't know the OP, his wife, nor their situation. This has potential but should be made more specific in order to be considered a good question. – EpsilonVector Nov 7 '12 at 14:00
2
It is also impossible to fully define a question within the scope of Area 51 character limit. @EpsilonVector – phwd Feb 1 '13 at 21:01
@phwd Good point. I wasn't aware there was a limit. – EpsilonVector Feb 2 '13 at 22:28

Perhaps the question would be more effective -- and more positive -- if it ended "What can I try? What has worked for you?" Otherwise the answer is an all too-easy yes, you're presuming anyone is doing anything wrong. – BobStein-VisiBone Mar 1 '13 at 13:50
