English Language & Usage: What is the difference in use (if any) between an em-dash, an en-dash, and a hyphen? Sorry, I realize now how ambiguous that was... Fixed now. |

WordPress Development How about "For everyone who has seen Alot of code." :D Just joking. I think the term self-hosted sites might be problematic, since the only people who will know what that means are the ones we want participating. Perhaps something like "For everyone who develops or administers WordPress.org websites." |

WordPress Development: Who develops WordPress? I think this should be off-topic. This is certainly 'related to WordPress', but it's not appropriate here. WP history, lore, and factoids probably aren't in scope. What does everyone else think? |

WordPress Development: How do I make a plugin? This is a bit too broad a question. The topic is good, but the scope isn't. A better question would be "What are some good resources for learning how to make a plugin?" |

WordPress Development: Delay in sidebar appearance of published post filtered by custom field/value - why? Now that we know what the question is, I can answer yes, it's on topic, as a hypothetical question. |

WordPress Development: How do I enable wildcard subdomains? @scribu Hmmm... I disagree; the big difference is that WP can (and often does) create/edit the .htaccess file, whereas it cannot turn on wildcard subdomains. Turning on Wildcards must be done explicitly through DNS settings. It would be the same situation as if someone asked "how do I enable cURL" or "how do I upgrade from PHP4 to PHP5". I think it's out of scope. |

WordPress Development: I just purchased Thesis and want to add my own header image. How do I do that? I think, with WP3.0's new custom header functionality, this is legitimate. We can probably expect Thesis to adopt the new header functionality, which makes this a question of 'how do I use WordPress' and less of 'how do I use this WP related 3rd party software'. |

WordPress Development: How do I enqueue javascript and css from a plugin that uses shortcodes? @Arlen & @scribu I definitely meant enqueue. The question shows familiarity with api, but a need for help within it. Because wp_enqueu_(script|style) needs to be called before wp_head(), it's 'too late' by the time the shortcode functions run. The solution I use is to search for the shortcode in the global posts variable before wp_head runs (usually hooking onto 'get_header'). |

WordPress Development: How do I enqueue javascript and css from a plugin that uses shortcodes? :D I know. I've seen some answers; but this is the kind of questions I'd like to see here (not that I don't think there are other very legitimate questions. I'd just be interested in the more advanced ones.) |

WordPress Development: How do I stop search engines from crawling all my archive pages? This is gray area. I'd definitely vote yes if the question was "Does WordPress already have functions to prevent search engines from crawling my archives?". As it is, I don't know which way to vote... |
